    Help with Dual Caliber

I have had TUBE rattle that I confused with the cab vibration. Try to run through a separate cab. If there's no vibration, you have isolated your problem. For high volume, pull chassis & gasket entirely. Wood & metal vibrate at different frequencies. And by all means, buy new tubes. You'll need...

    Mark IV DEAD!

Simple trouble shoot, pull ALL tubes & fire up. Does fuse blow? If not the problem is tube related. Dispose all tubes that have red plated. The plates have deformed & tube will not reliably function. Replace preamp tubes. Fuse blow? No, power tubes next. Now, if fuse blows under minimal load (...

    Studio 22+

Did you keep your old pot? If not, please do in the future. Lets face it, an enterprising amp tech will use anything to get it working & often sounding better. As to reverb, take bag off. Slightly loosen 4 screws. Should introduce some chaos. There will be a # please copy if you replace bag...

    Mark 2b recap?

Cathode bypass cap value affects the bass response of the tube circuit. It's a popular mod but the 25mf has a 50year track record of good tone. Since the values Al electrolytic drift rapidly, the 40year statement you read is bogus. Check every 4years. Same for filter caps! I have been using...

    Use of non-Mesa tubes

Good point whoopy. I bought a pair of bias probes from Hoffman Amplification for 17 bucks. You have to solder to assemble. Less than an hours work. Before buying valves, GET RETURN privilege. Valves should be to 'spec' or they shouldn't be on the market..

When did Mesa start using the current fixed bias settings?

With the first amp. Bias will be readjusted when G.E. invents a NEW tube. We could call it the 6neo2013..

1980/81 Mesa Boogie Mark 2B for sale - excellent cond.

Dennis, The price increases due to rarity or papers of province. I worked at a vintage guitar/amp store in the 80's. Unfortunately, Keith Richards can get 5k for a plain Jane mk2 b. not you! In 1985 I purchased an all original brown 1962 fender deluxe for 175 bucks. My 1982mk2 was just under a...

1980/81 Mesa Boogie Mark 2B for sale - excellent cond.

Actually, the value is what the market will bear. My boogie was my first serious amp. It's more like an old friend. My back won't forgive if I lift it. Why I acquired a TA30. Do hope your situation improves to the point where you may keep it, and play it...

    Use of non-Mesa tubes

Under biased...will red plate, hum,& finally blow a fuse. Over biased...distorted weak. The bias is determined(required) by the tube, not the amplifier. A well designed amp will have a bias supply to support the tubes installed. No problem in the 60's with western manufactured tubes, hense...

1980/81 Mesa Boogie Mark 2B for sale - excellent cond.

Last thanksgiving I saw a boogie '79. No reserve that didn't get one bid. Could have had it for a buck!! Had the hell beat out of it cosmeticly. Serviced sounded superb, supposedly. I refrained from bidding because of the 100 shipping fee! The ying & yang of mesa..
