    Resistance in original Mark I

I'm fairly sure that everything inside is stock - no, I don't see any tied off wires. Either way, I have been using it with that cab and nothing has blown up or sounded terrible yet, so...

    Resistance in original Mark I

That's what mine looks like, originally bought by my dad and not modded.

    Resistance in original Mark I

Weird - mine looks a bit different from that - the one on the right isn't separate from the others, but looks, to my amateur eye, like it's in series with the rest. (I believe it's from 77)

    Resistance in original Mark I

Wait, how do I use an ohmmeter in this case? The impedance marked on the output jacks doesn't actually refer to the output, but rather the impedance of the speaker it's designed to go to... right?

    Resistance in original Mark I

I don't believe I have an ohmmeter kicking around, but I'm sure I can scrounge one up, good call. What combinations of impedence between amp and speaker would you not want to use for fear of frying an amp, then, and why does this happen? I've got some working knowledge of electronics but not a...

    Resistance in original Mark I

Hmm, something just occurred to me: the speaker in the cab is rated at 8 ohms, yet no harm comes to it if I use the 4 ohm output (whichever one(s) it is). What's the word on using a 16 ohm cab, then?

    Resistance in original Mark I

No, I have it at a pretty healthy blast, though it still could be cranked a lot more... I'd go and try it louder than I had it before right now but it's 12:30 in the morning at the moment.

    Resistance in original Mark I

Hmm. I don't hear a difference at all... strange.

    Resistance in original Mark I

So I'm finding it very hard to shed light on what the resistance is from a Mark I - 4 ohms? 8 ohms? I gather that, since there are three outputs and everything, some of them are different than others... or are they? I don't see any markings on the amp. Please, enlighten me. Also, although the...

Mesa Reverb Ground Fix - Look Here

It's not a volume drop out, it's that for a fraction of a second it gets much LOUDER than I have it set to (with distorted, ear-splitting results)

Mesa Reverb Ground Fix - Look Here

blargh! perhaps I spoke too soon... For starters, it did vastly improve the situation. However, after playing my Strat at a reasonably high volume (this happens when the tone is clean, but it's more vulnerable on distorted settings, which I don't use as much) for maybe 10 minutes or so, it...

Mesa Reverb Ground Fix - Look Here

hey, I finally got around to doing this and it did the trick, thanks so much.

Mesa Reverb Ground Fix - Look Here

yeah, I can't quite wrap my head around it either; I got BB to PM me an image of the basic gist of the repair, but I'm nowhere near confident enough that I understand it to try to taking a soldering iron to my amp. I've basically been picking up the message that this is all common knowledge and...

Mesa Reverb Ground Fix - Look Here

sorry, the original link is broken and I can't find any more info on this online; could someone inform me please?

    mark I 60/100 watt switcher

thanks and another followup question: since my tubes are old and need replacing, if I only plan on using it on the 60 setting, would it matter if I only replaced the two outer ones rather than all four?
  16. G

    mark I 60/100 watt switcher

which ones are the active ones in 60 mode, then?
  17. G

    mark I 60/100 watt switcher

small question, but when using a Mark I switched to the 60-watt position, are all four of the tubes in action, or just two? if the answer is the latter, then should this be visible? (it looks to me like they're all on either way) (the reason I'm asking is that I'm having a problem with weird...

reverb problems on a Mark I

So I've got an original Mark I, and a while ago, the reverb started making this horrible distorted sound at any volume. I took it into the shop to see what was the matter with it and get it fixed, and I was told one of the tubes was microphonic, which he replaced and the problem seemed to be...
