Had the same problem in my Express 5:50. The culprit was one of the power tubes. Turned the amp off and tapped on both power tubes. One of the 6l6's rattled when I tapped on it. There is such a thing as valve filament rattle. Changed out the power tubes and no more rattle.

Yeah but if the amp is true class A the tubes should only run 8-9 watts per.... Class AB would be 12-13 watts.

TigerStrat, you are right on the NOS sound quality, but the price. Well, let's just say NOS tubes cost a tad bit more.

Lone Star, I absolutely love my 60's reissue. It sounds a thousand times better than any MIM standard. The 60 reissue is all cut and then shipped to Mexico for assemble. At least that was the case back in 2000 when I bought mine. The 60's reissue is worth the money....

I own a Choral/Flange. I absolutely love it. IMHO, the best stereo chorus out there!!!

I put in a set of Ruby 12ax7a's a while back, and absolutely love their tone. Anyone else using them????

Hey guys, bought a 50 Cal head about 6 months ago(EL84's). I absolutley Love this amp, but I am not sure when it was made. Any ideas on how to date this amp, or where to look inside to find the date?
