Mark V Tube placement for 12xa7 suggestions

No offense taken bro.... :D It's just a major PITA to get the head out of the shell, BUT... it is the easiest way to swap preamp tubes........ But, like ya said, swappin and testing is pretty much the only way to do it.

    Random Mark V chat...

So for maximum gain saturation, it's better to lower the channels and crank the main volume, or is it vice versa?

    Mark V distortion loss

Karl, I think it also stemmed from the fact that I run channel 1 on 90 watts for maximum clean head room and had that switch selected for 90 watts the whole time. Since that was set that way, I had the issues as described above. It seems that a blown 6L6 caused me distortion loss and lack of...

    Mark V distortion loss

After doing a preliminary look at the tubes, starting with the power tubes, I found that one of the 6L6 tubes ( far right, looking at the back ) had a slight burnt mark on the glass as well as the metal inside the tube. Replaced this tube and all is well. Played a little with bed room volumes in...

    Mark V distortion loss

I guess the only thing I can really do is to start swapping out each 12xa7 pre amp tube with a known good tube and trying the amp after each swap to see if the sound goes back to the way it used to be. Any other suggestions?

    Mark V distortion loss

I have a Mark V which I bought new less than a year ago. Just recently, at a show, I've noticed that I have some distortion loss issues. When using channel 3 in the Mark IV mode, my distortion doesn't have that nice saturated tone as before. I've tried 3 different guitars with both active and...

    Bias Switch Close Call

I've never had bad moments, but I'm paranoid at times after powering on my Mark V head, that it's not connected to my recto 2x12 cab without a power cable.... I always triple check everything, esp that bias switch in the back before powering on..... 1. Check that power cable is connected from...

Mark V Head need help with effects

I just ordered a new mesa preamp tube to test out the v6.... The only reason I'm starting this way is because the effects run great, and then for no reason at all, I get volume drops, weird noises, etc....etc.... ( played a full gig and all levels and sounds were great! ) Next practice, had...

Mark V Head need help with effects

Thanks, Yeah, I'm no stranger to setting levels correctly, as I also run sound for our group, when we're playing in a smaller establishments. I'll have to look into making sure the levels are correct. It's easy with a mixing board...... Solo a channel, play at the loudest volume you think you...

Mark V Head need help with effects

RGR that, thanks... Will try that. Also taking it in to shop where it was purchased. I still have a warranty left. I'm gonna have em check it out just to make sure that there's no issues with the 500 itself. Eventually, I'd like to sell the thing if it works properly....
