replaced with with Ei's and the amp is now WAY better. The JJ's made the amp sound like it was covered in a wet blanket. This is the third amp that has sounded better to me after ditching the JJ tubes.

You will loose a ton of signal running 2 18 foot cables. A wah into the effects loop will sound like dung.

wont effect gain in any meaningful way by adjusting a pole piece. You can balance out your string balance.

I think I have owned most every major model of Gibson (still own Les Pauls) except the one I have always wanted. Now I found a good Explorer...it is alive acoustically and plays itself. The pickups are bad (ceramic 500's) and will be replaced with a JB/Pearly Gates combo. Pics:

I just put a set in my Stiletto Ace 2X12. WOW! huge improvement over the original tubes and they are a HUGE step up in clarity and harmonics when compared to the JJ E34L tubes I had been using.

Anyone heard of this being done? I know that many people prefer EL34 tubes in Rectifier series amps...was wondering if there is any word on a stiletto running with 6L6 tubes. I know it would call for the amp being modded.....dont really want to do it myself. Just wondering....
