    MKIVB Versions: Detachable Power Chord

I thought that all full B had a detachable cord so I would have said from Dec 93 on. But you have seen newer amps with the cord still attached.

    MKIVB Versions: Detachable Power Chord

Not for certain but just for info... the transition between the MkIV-A and the early B version (or noA/noB) seems to have happened around the lower s/n 5800's. In the forum, there is someone with an early B s/n 585X (Dec 92? or Jan 93?) and another one with a full B s/n 689X (Dec 93).

How different are IIB's as opposed to IIA's

Regarding the MkIIB, the setting indicated in the manual is based on what they called the "typical 7-2 setting": Vol1: 7 Treb: 7 Bass: 2 Mid: 2 Mast1: 2 LD: 8 LM: 2 Pres: Rev: EQ: out

How different are IIB's as opposed to IIA's

Snottyboy: there is little information about the MkIIA so I am sharing here below some settings taken from the MarkIIA manual (the first two) and two others posted in this forum. 1) Good basic setting Vol1: 4 Treb: 9 Bass: 3 Mid: 3 Mast1: 2 LD: 7 LM: 1 Pres: 7 Rev: 4 EQ: out 2) Good basic...

How different are IIB's as opposed to IIA's

FWIW, Mike Bendinelli told me some years ago that the MkIIA has a very unique sound within the Mark series and it is great with 335 guitars. Mike also said it is kind of a hot-rod Tweed Bassman and that the clean channel was their highest achievement at that time while the search for the lead...

    mark 3 serial numbers

Thank you for the picture s-fresh. Obviously, the factory stamped the A in front of the already stamped serial number. Both "twin-numbered" amps should be perfectly fine and as similar/slightly different as any other two amplifiers.

    mark 3 serial numbers

According to what I read somewhere here in this forum, if and when Mesa found two chassis with same serial numbers (some of them were stamped in advance during manufacturing and some others at the time of manufacturing completion), they did not restamp the chassis but preferred to stamp an...

    mark IV power loss

I have been having the same problems with my Mark IV-A as the one reported by the original post here. I was also finding it was solved by flipping the stand by switch. Thank you Boogiebabies for your note. I will replace the PI tube and clean the master volume pot and the effects send and...

    Opinions on STR-425 5881 tone?

For what I understand they are a little bit bassy and good for jazz. When I asked Mike Bendinelli if I could use them in a Mark II-A, he said better not because the II-A was already a dark amplifier.

    MKII Glitches?

Zlofengir, I think he was referring to the clean sound.

Mark IIA vs. Mark IIB, Which Do You Prefer?

Mike Bendinelli says that the II-A has a sound that is very unique within the Mark series. I think he was referring to the clean sound.

    Mark 3 series.

I don't know whether Santana sounds like Santana on any amp. Guitar amps are not hi-fi amplifiers like the ones you use for acoustic guitar or keyboards. They add flavor to the guitar sound.

    Boogie early history & more

Chip: as you were correctly saying. This is a Mark IIC preamp block diagram I copied from one of Mesa's old brochures. Probably a IIC+ since the effects loop appears to be after the Lead mode circuit. Lead mode has a First Gain (Input) - Tone (and Treble shift)/Volume1 - Gain makeup - Lead...

Stock Mark III 60 watt with 2 EL34's?? No Stripe

I don't think so but Mike Bendinelli can easily do that for you. What is what you are looking for tone-wise?

Mesa Boogie Early Mark 1 ?

SSG means probably 60 Watt and GEQ but I cannot guess what the middle S stands for. Maybe, it is: Super Sixty GraphicEQ

Tone 1986 mesa boogie studio we w/ EQ

I sent my Studio .22+ to Mike Bendinelli for him to add a fourth volume pot at the back of the chassis. With this "Lead Drive" pot, you can dial the gain of the clean and the lead channels independently (it resembles more of a Mark II and III). It is a very common mod in these amps. Maybe there...

I had exactly that same problem with a II-B and, after cleaning the jack, the problem disappeared.

[audio] Mark III Purple Stripe, no eq

Not at all. I was really shocked when I read presence=10; I would have never guessed it. Maybe, as you said, the key is in the lack of onboard EQ. Thank you for sharing your audio and your settings. I really appreciate it. Daniel
