I have used the line out of my .50 Caliber into the 50/50, and it works very well. This blends the power section of the combo or head with the 50/50 power amp. You could also use the effects send to use an amplifier's preamp section only. I preferred the line out.

As far as any level, I honestly couldn't answer that. The only level I heard was loud! I slaved my little 50 caliber into a 160 watt Peavey Mace, and I couldn't keep up with Mike. I only had 1 4 x 12, where he was running at least 4 cabs.

My guess is the added power gave more bass. I have a friend that used to run his Quad through a strategy 400, and it was definitely deeper than a 50/50.

Did your Half Back cab come with the Boogie logo?

I would recommend taking the chassis out if this is your first time. remove the 4 screws in the top of the cab, and it slides out the back. Unplug the amp first, and don't forget to unplug the reverb cables, and don't go poking around the capacitors with anything metal. I suggest this...
