Xotic EP-Booster. Sounds fantastic, so good I leave it on all the time just for the tone. But it's a great sounding boost pedal as well. Internal dip switches let you tailor the tone a bit; otherwise, just one knob. And it's tiny. And a good bargain for boutique quality (under $120 new).

Update - bought the Guytron Bigtone 55 ($100 plus $15 shipping new). Worthy upgrade! I'm very pleased. I know this speaker is still a bit obscure, but we tried one with several different amps and compared it to some pretty cool speakers, and it was the clear winner.

The tech found two bad solder joints. Treble control now works normally.

Sorry, I'm not buying it. My F30 is very quiet. Sure it gets noisy when the gain is cranked - all amps do. But yours sounds much worse. There has to be a problem with it. Mesa support is about as good as it gets, not sure why they'd say that. They discontinue amps all the time and the Express...

And Mesas are real easy to repair by any qualified tech. Schematics are easily available. Mine have undergone some repairs which turned out to simple and cheap. But like has been said, it's an excuse to try something else.

We did that test - it is apparently working correctly. Zero the mids and bass, and you can silence the amp with the treble knob. We also discovered that its behavior changes a lot with gain - lower the gain and you can get a lot more effect from the treble knob. Apparently that is how it is...

Yep. If it's the right size. Mine measures 8.5 inches from screw center to screw center. I can ask the folks there, didn't see a measurement on it. I always though they were all the same size, guess not. Unless the 7.5-inch handles were measured differently.
