    Dual Rectifier Advice Please

Good choice... Happy New Year to you too...

    Dual Recto serial#???

It should be a G. The attached cord hung on for a little bit into the G's. Best way to check date is to look inside chassis.

    Wow, that was fun...

It is kind of difficult to spend enough time here right now to really give the attention to the Board that I was. I should be back to normal soon (I hope). In the meantime, keep it up guys. Keep the posts informative too while you do it. That is the entire point of doing it. This builds a...

Is a Mark IV for me?

Welcome to the Board :D The Mark IV should fit your bill very nicely. The amp is really articulate and is hard to make mush out. I like to play rhythm on it because it really lets you hear everything you do unlike many other amps that tend to blend together.

    150w Black Shadows? Halfback Content.

Those 150 watters should be Emminence IIRC. Nice cab...

How to brighten a 1X12 Mesa Extension Cab?

You might try removing the back panel if the extension cabinet is sealed also.

best cab for the mk iv

I would say the old school vertical 2x12 halfback like eltrain or a thiele. You really only need one Thiele but 2 would be pretty awesome. Some report good findings with the G-Flex 2x12. If I was considering a wide cabinet with Thiele characteristics I would consider the ones being built by one...

Picked up a Mark IV yesterday!! tubes/serial number question

3 Mark IV's.... That'd be nice. I envy you for that. My Mark IV is an A with a lower serial than yours (IIRC 560's?) and sounds really "grrreat!" <--- as Tony the Tiger would say. You are right, with the change to the B came a slight change in R2 and Lead. This makes the amp slightly...

How do I get a "brown" sound?

Brown can definitely be had in old Marshalls... However, I do not believe I ever saw a stock 2203 equipped with KT66's. I believe you might be thinking of 6550's as the US versions were loaded this way.

    6V6s..

I think ursinus was using 6V6's exclusively in his MarkIV. There are some others too. IIRC Boogietone was too. I would PM ursinus and ask what he was using.

2 Ch Triple Rec with EL-34s?

Pull your chassis and look at the inspection dates for your best idea of how old your amp is.

    California members.. any must-visit shops?

You could visit GC Hollywood "RockWalk". Check out their vintage room. There are some nice amps in there usually along with some great guitars. The little side museum is pretty interesting too. It is right across the street from Mesa Hollywood. Woops, I guess I missed ya, I just saw the date...

    EL34's: Mullard, Svetlana or EH?

I wasn't very fond of the EH EL-34. I had some in the last retube of my last Marshall. They worked and sounded ok at best but were nothing to really write home about. I haven't heard the new Svetlana offerings but their older stuff was great ( I am talking over a decade ago ). I have heard that...

    I bought an Explorer

Nice axe... Is it that you don't like the 500 or is the pickup failing? I kind of like the 500 myself, but then again, I like lots of signal. For a passive, I don't think that it is half bad for OE. I like active EMG's too though. I have left the 500's in my current Explorer and V's. I might...

    Distortion pedal recommendations???

Patience... I am glad to hear that you are finding your way. Sometimes it just takes tweaking things a little. I think your decisions so far were to your benefit. If you do go SR then you will only limit yourself and the ROV might be an option but you were already there. Besides, your...

    Distortion pedal recommendations???

I wouldn't consider myself an elitist. I am actually a veteran, a college grad, a journeyman in my trade, a licensed general contractor and a business owner. I wouldn't consider myself as having limited mental ability either. The last time I took an IQ test I was 4 pts shy of genius. That was...

    Roadking 2X12 OR Rectifier 2X12

I think I will concur there. I like the sound of my old vertical 2x12 halfback that is EVM loaded. It sounds pretty big. I don't even have to close the upper half. ToneAddictJon is right EVM's sound huge. Ever hear an EVM in a Thiele? If you don't go this route then maybe try a Genz Benz...

    Mesa Mark III What's this?

Aren't those your footswitch jacks for RHYTHM 2 and EQ-REV? Maybe it was just marked like that as a quick distinction between the two.

    Roadster..CH3 fade out.

You should be able to get the information you need regarding preamp tube duties from the manual. Many like Doug's tubes or Eurotubes for ordering online. There is also KCA, Watford, Tube World, GT and Mesa of course.
