Advice for getting lonestar like clean tone on mk V ch 1

I have an old second hand lonestar and a mk V. Lucky me. My friend Wolf Mail a pro blues guitarist much prefers to play the lonestar I like both amps well enough. However there is no doubt that the mk V tends to sound more "nasal" than the lonestar. This is particularly obvious on channel 1...

open back atlantic cabinet v dual rectifier?

Enjoying the Mk V, playing about 1 hr per night and playing out occasionally. Just wondering how my sound (such as it is) will change if I move to an open back cabinet say a single speaker 23" Atlantic cabinet over the tight, bassy horizontal dual rectifier cab? I'd expect the sound to get a...

Struglling for a warm clean tone on the treble strings

i've been doing about 1 hour a day on the Mk V for a year now. In general happy with everything except the clean tone on channel 1 which tends to sound tinny and thin to my ears. I need a clean guitar tone for some songs I'd normally play acoustic on, but that's not an option here. Tried...

    Equaliser footswitch erratic

Like the title says the equaliser on/off foot switch has become erratic, works sometimes not others. I am sure this is due to a bad connection with the cable and I'm just wondering whether it is the cable pin or an internal socket that is more likely to be damaged and what the best way to...

Using vocal processor with mk v?

Hi I've been thinking about using a vocal processor with the mk v and trying to work out where I could have the signal go from the mk v to the vocal processor for its harmonies without hurting the mk v tone. Will it work if I go from the slave output into the vocal Rocessor? Or is there a...

    Joe Bonamassa silky lead tone

I am looking for some settings and maybe stomp pedals that will give me a tone similar to the tone Joe is using for Black Country Communion, say in the song "Cold".Looking for that sweet, warm, pure but suggestive tone. All thoughts and suggestions appreciated. Most of it is to do with...

Mark V - why so few "famous" artists with it?

Having had a Lonestar for a while and liking the clean tone but wanting more I've just bought a Mark V. I just didn't want a Marshall or a Fender as it all seems overdone , similar reason I have a PRS guitar (also not much used by the really big names). Very few big names seem to use the Mesa...

What should I wear to look like a muso?

I'm an investment bank analyst during the day. Last of a dying breed. And an old one at that. But for rehearsals and, heaven forbid, gigs, I need to look like a muso. What should I wear? I saw a romanian orchestra/band the other night and their guitarist had rings, shiny boots and belt, tight...

condsidering a Mark V 2009 used Head: what to look for, cab?

Hi. Opportunity to buy a Mark V head used. What should I look for? I guess tubes are the obvious thing? Also what's the right cab to get with it? I see there is a Marshal cab 4x12 celestions on offer. Is that a good fit? I doubt I'll be maxing this thing out if that matters. I have Lonestar...

Anyone know who the garage band blues guitar is?

I'm talking about the track labelled "true grit" in the "magic garage band" "blues song". Anyhow I owe him a debt. Been practicing those 12 bars a lot. Pretty sure he plays it finger picking, whereas of course I'm trying to flat pick. I guess that's why it takes 37 years.

Joe bonamassa does a good live show

Saw the show in Sydney last night. Still working on developing his own style but he has the act and the fingers to do what he wants. Lyrics were hard to hear. When will these guys realize it's the song and not the guitar no matter how good. He hardly repeated a lick all night. Lovely acoustic...

    Byron bay bluesfest 2011

Only caught the first 4 days this year. Huge lineup. Five stages and six days in total. And yet..... In terms of blues itself there was nothing hair-raising. Far too many bands with industrial bass much too loud in the mix for my taste. Best blues band, best blues keyboards, beast keys...

PRS 305 - first flush of love

Imported it from Jamin Johns Carolina. Spent two weeks in local customs, now hooked up to Lonestar and has me thinking about her all day long. No doubt the fever will wear about and I will soon start to see all the things that are wrong. What impresses me the most is how in tune it is. Right up...

What guitar do you like with your lonestar?

Thought I was getting nice tone on the LSC using a Gibson 335, then the PRS 305 rolled up at the front door. Now the clean tone is very cool. Luv that combo. Sure there's heaps more to be had from it. Never quite realised how clean a "noisy" single coil can be.

Is there an easy footswitch conversion for the effects loop?

LSC. I'd like to be able to turn the effects loop on and off using a foot switch. I like the effects loop when I have effects but I also like the clean sound. Any easy solutions for a mid song switch?

Memory man deluxe - how to hook up the "true bypass"

Excuse the dumb question. Its what happens when you get investment bankers fiddling with music. I have the memory man deluxe which has one input and two outputs. I have the input connected from the effects send on the Lone Star Classic and the effects output connected to the effects return...

Dumb question from a Lonestar newbie -loading power tube

Please excuse the ignorance, I am a 35 year acoustic player but now want to learn something about electrics. So I bought a v1 Lonestar. I read that I have to overdrive the power tubes to make "real" melody style sounds. My question is if I turn the master volume right up (say 8) but have the...
