Do you guys own more than one Mark V?

Only one MkV but also a lone star combo. Both great amps, even after more than two years I am still finding lots of new sounds in the mk v. Wolf mail who is over at my place every Saturday likes the lone star. He gets an ace blues/rock/country tone from it.

    Rivera Rock Crusher

I think the amp sounds great with the master volume any where from 8:30 on. For over a year used in spongy mode thinking that would keep the noise down. Now though I far prefer the clarity that comes from full power. From memory I run ch 2 crunch in 45 watt mode. Even moving from extreme on ch...

    I Chose The Mark V

I use mine nearly every day mostly at home and have done for the last 3 and more years. For home use and even playing out my two thoughts are 1 move it away from the wall and the corner a bit, you get less resonance. The cabinet is better off the ground closer to ear level.

Mark V reverb not working/good amp tech in Sydney

I use Dave Peachy in Annandale. My stuff hasn't been too hard but he did it well http://peachaudio.com

Advice for getting lonestar like clean tone on mk V ch 1

Blues, rock even jazz and that's just the electric stuff I could run the two cabs together, And was thinking of trying that. Suspect the sound will be muddy. Spend most of my time on channel two in crunch mode, but I use all three channels. There are a lot of different ways to use this amp...

Advice for getting lonestar like clean tone on mk V ch 1

Thanks for the thoughts. I plugged the lonestar cabinet with the v90 black shadows into the Mkv head last night and disliked the results. I'd need to put time into redialing in all of the channels, so I am just going to work on making the rectifier cabinet sound as good as I can make it. In the...

Advice for getting lonestar like clean tone on mk V ch 1

I'm using a horizontal rectifier cabinet with v30s and a mk v head. The tone has improved recently with some tweaking, a bit more bass than I was previously using. The lonestar is a combo. The guitar is mostly a prs with 59/09 pups. Rolling the volume and tone down a bit helps. I have been...

Advice for getting lonestar like clean tone on mk V ch 1

I have an old second hand lonestar and a mk V. Lucky me. My friend Wolf Mail a pro blues guitarist much prefers to play the lonestar I like both amps well enough. However there is no doubt that the mk V tends to sound more "nasal" than the lonestar. This is particularly obvious on channel 1...

What album are you listening to?

Mahivishnu Orchestra- birds of fire Not everyone's cup of tea but the overall standard of musicianship is outstanding. I will be choosing a track fromt that recording for my funeral collection.

open back atlantic cabinet v dual rectifier?

Thanks for that. Maybe I should just work on my technique instead

open back atlantic cabinet v dual rectifier?

Enjoying the Mk V, playing about 1 hr per night and playing out occasionally. Just wondering how my sound (such as it is) will change if I move to an open back cabinet say a single speaker 23" Atlantic cabinet over the tight, bassy horizontal dual rectifier cab? I'd expect the sound to get a...

Struglling for a warm clean tone on the treble strings

The guitar is a PRS custom 22. Thanks for the replys. I have put more work into it and I'm happier now. Seems like turning the presence down even more has helped. Also the level on channel 1 was set too low relative to the other channels and so had to run the guitar volume at max which was over...

What album are you listening to?

Man I remember when that was released. I am just learning a couple of songs off it now "Cant you hear me knocking" That Bobby Keys was the perfect rock and roll sax player.

Struglling for a warm clean tone on the treble strings

i've been doing about 1 hour a day on the Mk V for a year now. In general happy with everything except the clean tone on channel 1 which tends to sound tinny and thin to my ears. I need a clean guitar tone for some songs I'd normally play acoustic on, but that's not an option here. Tried...

What album are you listening to?

Well I'm still listening to Robben Ford and Larry Carlton. Larry Carlton is an inspiration in that he has to be older than even me and yet he is still playing that acoustic guitar like his fingers are made of titanium. This is a very rich record for a live acoustic performance. There is a ton...

Dilemma: carry my MKV each time, or use provided amp...

Hmm Glad I don't face the issue. I've got used to most of the effects going through the effects loop on the MK V so plugging them in line would change the tone quite a bit I'm guessing.

    Equaliser footswitch erratic

Like the title says the equaliser on/off foot switch has become erratic, works sometimes not others. I am sure this is due to a bad connection with the cable and I'm just wondering whether it is the cable pin or an internal socket that is more likely to be damaged and what the best way to...

    Tone vs. Playing Skill?

I hate playing in guitar stores. So I compensate by not playing in them. Unfortunately I had to try out a new PRS in shop, mostly just did it unplugged, to get a feel for the neck.

    RIP ALVIN LEE

Alvin Lee. That's a blast from the past. In country Australia where I grew up, he had a reputation around 1970 of being the fastest player of all. His double album live was often on. The good news is the music lives on. That's one benefit I guess for musos. Us investment bankers, 5 minutes...

What album are you listening to?

Larry Carlton and Robin Ford unplugged live in France. This is a brilliant album. Tasty licks and lots of sympatico between the two. These two fit together like puzzle pieces. The rhythm section is pretty hot without ever getting in the way.
