    DC-3 tube swapping

Ah the magic of multiple gain stages and channels that dont share but the input tube! Decided to do some tube swapping but where to start? Luxury problem for some one with almost every old stock 12AX7 ever made. Well the DC-3 is mid heavy but I didnt want to loose too much grunt. Had an RCA...

    DC-3 bias setting now measured!

So I got my Amp Head probe today.Hooked it up to my DC-3 and fired it up. Really nice ,cost effective probe which allows the user to switch between plate voltage and current draw--no probing involved - for 79$ Dialed the current draw to 19ma which at the wicked measured 440 plate voltage is 70%...

    DC-3 bias update !

DC-3 bias update! So I recieved the updated bias kit from John at Mansfield yesterday. As the old one didnt work he graciously sent me this one gratis! Got around to installing it today along with using the old 50K pot in place of the 15k PI bias resistor. Anyhow the kit came with a 22k...

    PSA- DC-3 bias mod

OK so I believe Ive gotten it squared away. Used a Mansfield kit(50 k pot with back up resistor) but you could just get the pot and resistor. I didnt want to source them. Installed it in place of the 33k resistor. Then I piggiedbacked a 470K on the 120K resistor effectively making it 100K. The...

    DC-3 bias

Hi everyone. New DC-3 owner here....with a slight redplating problem. The amp has white label Mesa EL-84's in it. Wouldnt have noticed it if the room wasnt fairly dark. Ive read this particular model runs the tubes hot. Im wondering if a lower current draw set is the answer or if I have a bias...
