TriAxis Gain sporadically stuck on 10

I figured out it just needs it's sweet time to warm up properly and it helps to switch through the channels a bit before firing up the poweramp.

TriAxis metal users - gain level poll

As per the title - I'm interested where you guys have your Gain/LD Drive set and what style of music you play. For example, I play rhythm in a thrash (sorta) band and my Gain is set to 7.5 and LD on 6.0 using EMG or BKP Nailbomb pickups. LD2 Orange. For leads, I have 7.5 both, LD2 Green. P.S...

    Triaxis disassembly for display repair?

All I can say is... good luck, I talked about it with my tech once and he said he'd rather get electrocuted than have to replace TriAxis LEDs again. He didn't give me any details, but from that I assume it must be pretty **** hard and/or time consuming.

    Selling gear

I think US folks should be happy when it comes to used gear. Your used market is a dreamland compared to the EU. In the States, I see good cabs go for prices so ridiculously low it makes me cringe.

    Cab for Triaxis

Tom being a Marshall user, it's hard for me not to recommend a Marshall 1960 of some sort. I like the V version (1960AV/BV) since it has V30s, but a regular 1960A (with the 75 speakers 7enderbender mentioned) might suit you just fine. Personally I didn't really like T75s with the TriAxis, but...

    BattleX

Some live clips from our latest gig, two covers and an original, TriAxis/2:90 through a Randall cab. Other rig is an ENGL E530 and a Peavey 50/50 Classic through a Marshall 1960A. BattleX - Domination (Pantera cover) BattleX - Blackened (Metallica cover) BattleX - Final Confrontation

Modern Metal tone, what is it?

I'm also confused by this. My issue with the term itself is that "modern" tones usually are usually part of a "modern" mix. I don't really care for the pushy, loud, compressed brickwalls people call mixes these days, so I'm having a hard time liking the guitar tones in these mixes. However...

Tone knobs on guitars - do you really use it for Metal?

I would survive without the tone knob for metal, no problem. Volume pot is a different story, our music isn't all slaughter all the time so I roll it down a little for some parts. Also, you might regret not having a tone knob in the studio - as Given To Fly has already said, with clean tones...

    Iconic bad tone

A lot of early black metal records have some bad guitar tones, but it's kind of unfair to say that since the entire production is usually bad (I'm talking things like Burzum or old Mayhem), not just the guitars. I enjoy the music nonetheless. :)

New Study finds 88% of Guitar Center customers become famous

What a load of poppycock. Preposterous. The actual percentage is surely much, much higher than that.

    December 8, 2004 - ten years gone!

+1, the man may perish but the riffs and licks never die

    Strategy 400

I would assume that it's safe if you keep the other half on Standby, since it has its own Standby switch. You could also disconnect that channel's input cable and turn the volume down for extra safety.

TriAxis Gain sporadically stuck on 10

I am lost for words. I haven't played my Tri in about a month due to lack of time and last time I played it it worked fine. Then I come to rehearsal and it sounds like the Gain is stuck on 10. Lowering the Gain to 0 has no effect, it does not even lower the gain, even with the numbers showing...

Midi foot controller V floor MFX? How was it for you?

Actually I have a BOSS GT-6 and it can control the TriAxis no problem, CC included. And the FX on that unit are decent as well (you can turn everything off). I know there are MFX that have better FX, but these serve me just fine. I know there are also more transparent units, but I actually...

    Studio Preamp FX level question

You can't "blow" a pedal using line level signal, but the effect may distort if the signal is too hot. Also, if your FX level is set to LOW, it's not "bad" for the poweramp but the signal may be too weak (amp won't be as loud). I would recommend using the LOW setting because of the pedals...

    Studio Preamp, a real "Mark"?

Or a lot of early Dream Theater albums and probably a dickload of other albums, it's not just MoP :) IIRC the Studio can be modded to IIC+ specs, correct? Or is that the Quad?

EL34 tube recommendation for RA100, any suggestions?

+1 on the TungSol EL34B, good "replacement" for SED =C='s

Suggestions for bright sounding 12ax7's please

+1, did wonders for cleaning up my Lead 1 Red mode in my TriAxis.

    Iconic bad tone

Uh-uh. Also agree with the Randy comment. That chorused Crazy Train nonsense tone sounds like a Roland Cube.

Mark V + JJ gold pin retube kit from Eurotubes?

Eurotubes is a store that sells only one brand of tubes (JJ) and to my ears, they don't sound that great (if you use only JJ in all positions). Too driven, too dark/muddy. I have a TriAxis/2:90 which is tonally similar to a Mark V. Not the same, granted, but enough to give me an idea. My advice...
