    Foil shield shedding inside

Got my brand new replacement Mark V now, factory sealed box. Some minor differences: - The new one came with a very nice dust cover that I'll probably never use - It didn't have the plastic 'cheat sheet' on top showing all the sample settings - The tube cover snaps in place on plastic...

    Bias reading question

BTW, about the TAD bias meter, the 4 channels aren't completely independent. If you measure the outside of each of the RCA jacks on the meter, you'll find they are connected together. This is fine for sets of power tubes that all have a common grounded cathode connection. This is the usual...

    Foil shield shedding inside

My call today to the store that I bought it from seems to have resulted in some back-and-forth between the store, the authorized repair shop and Mesa, and some management escalation. The store called me back, I didn't quite understand the explanation as it was on the phone and in German (I do OK...

Several weeks is turning into several months. The saga continues.

    Foil shield shedding inside

This was what the guy at the store said, I don't have information back from the official Mesa distributor/repair yet. I have long ago ceased to expect things in Switzerland to work the same way as they do in the US.

    Foil shield shedding inside

After a year of bliss, my Mark V had to go in the shop. Recently it had been making an intermittent fairly loud 50Hz noise. Fine for hours then RRRR! RRRR! Any channel, any power setting, independent of any volume settings, regardless of if the efect loop or guitar cable plugged in or not...

    A stupid question...

I still have my ENGL Screamer 50 head. It's a good price for the quality, simple design, good tone, solid construction. With the Engl 1x12 it sounds quite different from the combo (ported bass reflex vs open back...). You just have to try it and any of the other good suggestions and see what you...

    Favorite 2x12 for Mark V?

I got a Recto 2x12 vertical cab a couple months ago. Looks nice, sounds great. The mark V is almost exactly as wide as the cab, so they really go together well. As the the sound, you just have to try it yourself; a horizontal vs. vertical 2x12 is a real matter of taste.

    Mark V FX Loop Question

It's annoying, but normal. As much as I studied the schematics, I can't figure out how it gets through. It's not a fixed percentage, but rather a fixed level, It seems to be completely independent of the per-channel master settings. It seems to depend only on how much gain is set in that...

Sequence of signal stages in Mark V

Schematic found here: http://music-electronics-forum.com/t15431/ About the Mark I mode, I didn't describe all the changes that the different modes make. It's pretty complicated, and mostly involves changing various resistors and capacitors in the circuit., but there's some tricky clever...

Sequence of signal stages in Mark V

V1A, V2B, etc. are the preamp tubes. Each preamp tube has 2 circuit elements inside, each can, for example, add gain or boost the signal. Most of the other abbreviations are the controls: TMB are the Treble Mid Bass controls MASTER, GAIN are the Master and Gain controls EQ is the Equalizer Send...

Sequence of signal stages in Mark V

I spent some time going through the schematic to work out the major signal stages of this amp. I didn't find someone else had posted this, so here it is. I hope this information is helpful to someone. This information is pretty raw, I haven't messed around with formatting it nice. Maybe it...

FX loop, "Solo" only on Ch1 ?

The rear knob just allows to "override" the footswitch for one or all channels. I found the issue. There is a fixed amount of signal that bypasses the individual Master volume controls, effect loop, and Output controls. For Ch1 it's practically nothing, but for Ch2 and 3 it's bedroom playing...

FX loop, "Solo" only on Ch1 ?

Proud new owner of a MarkV, I have some odd behavior I don't quite understand. I searched the forum here, but mostly found issues of noise and signal levels with effects processors. I think my problem is different. It seems the FX loop only works as I expect for channel 1. The "Solo" control...
