    My 5:25 is cooking tubes

So earlier today I posted the question about using a noise gate with my Express 5:25 to tame the hiss on the clean channel. Well, I'm starting to suspect there may be something else wrong with my amp. Tonight I sat down to practice a bit, and after about 10 minutes there volume just dropped...

Noise gate to remove hiss on clean channel, upgrade to plus?

Thank you for the info, GuyB. So a big +1 for the +. I admit I was hoping to hear this, although my bank account may beg to differ...

Noise gate to remove hiss on clean channel, upgrade to plus?

Hello fellow Boogers  I simply love the clean channel on my Express 5:25 (1st gen), except for that pesky background shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (hiss). I've been assured by Mesa that this is a normal "feature" of these amps, and seen a lot of grief posted here regarding this. It really...

    Love my F30 but...

Hey bajaman, thanks for posting this! I'm considering doing one of the mods to my express 5:25, and I have a couple of questions, if I may... First, for either of the mods, is removal of the circuit board necessary? Second, do either of these mods change the tonal characteristics of the clean...

Any Experience with long cable-runs in Express FX Loop?

Interesting...well, I'm just about done building my custom "snake" to bundle all my cables to and from the pedal board to backline - 3 instrument cables (amp-in, fx-send, fx-return) amp footswitch cable Mic XLR cable It's only about 15 feet, so we'll see how it sounds

    Thanks for the feedback all!

Any Experience with long cable-runs in Express FX Loop?

Thanks for the feedback. All of the pedals I had planned on putting in the loop are true-bypass, so no buffer, although I suppose I could use my Boss TR-2 (Tremolo) in the loop. Think that would qualify as a "quality" buffer? Thanks again!

is it safe to use LSC for bass?

Hi Hugh, Check out this thread here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/how-will-bass-damage-guitar-amp-754199/ Should be fine at low (bedroom practice) volumes, with the bass dialed down a bit. Cheers, Jon

Any Experience with long cable-runs in Express FX Loop?

Hello all, I'm curious to hear about anyone's experience with long cable runs in the Express's FX Loop (say 20' round-trip). I ask because my 5:25's manual is pretty clear about limiting cables to 3' (with 1' being preferred). In particular I've got 2 question: 1) Is this primarily related to...

How do I dial out the nasal honk?

OK, I know it's been a year-and-a-half since I posted this, but I finally figured out how to "dial-out the nasal sound" that I sometimes was hearing from my Express 5:25 :D I finally realized that the times I was hearing it most was when I was playing at low volume (accompanying a slightly...

How do I dial out the nasal honk?

Interesting, I play in an acoustic/electric combo with no drummer, and currently no bass either, so perhaps that's why I hear it so much more...

How do I dial out the nasal honk?

I know this is a MB trait, some love it, me not so much. Does anybody have any suggestions for getting rid of the nasal timbre? I recently read a review of the lonestar that mentioned the characteristic MB nasal timbre is gone :). Wonder if this has carried-over to the new 5:25+ ? Cheers, JS

Guitar volume control and output volume of amp

Thanks for the replies everyone. boogieman60 - I can definitely get this effect, the problem is the drastic change in the overall output-volume of the amp make it somewhat impractical to do so. Morph - I believe compression on the input signal would take us into a totally different...

Guitar volume control and output volume of amp

Hello fellow express-heads. Recently I've been experimenting with the volume controls on my guitars with my Express 5:25 in an attempt to get more control on the level of overdrive right at my fingertips. I know a lot of people say they like to roll-down their guitar's volume to clean up the...

Footswitch Cable - will Midi extension cable work?

I actually just ordered a pair of Neutrik male and female 6-pin XLR connectors from Mouser to do this. I figure I'll cut the existing cable about 2' from one end and then attach the XLRs. Eventually I might replace the PCB mounted DIN Jack on the footswitch with a panel mounted XLR so it's a...

Footswitch Cable - will Midi extension cable work?

Thanks for the feedback! I just remembered I have the response I got from MB regarding the cable: Me: "The footswitch cable for the Express, is it simply a 5 pin MIDI cable?" Response from Kris at Mesa: "Well the cable is a 5pin DIN cable but a simple MIDI cable will not work properly. With a...

Footswitch Cable - will Midi extension cable work?

What I'd like to do is just use a short (1') male-female cable permanently attached at the amp and then plug in to this with the main footswitch cable. Now although the connectors are the same as 5-pin Midi cable, MB told me that unlike midi, all the conductors are used for switching...

What can I expect from an extension cab, tone wise?

Thanks for the feedback J.J I use a stand now, but I love the idea of a little stack with the Express 1X12 and an extension cab. Of course it is one more thing to lug around... I never get to play loud enough to achieve speaker breakup anyways :? Does having an extension cab allow you run the...
