What are Mesa Boogie going to do about the tube scarcity?

The buying public will realize you don't have to buy their branded tubes.

Messa Boogie Studio .22 Tube Layout

I am sure you got this sorted out by now, but just posting to help anyone that comes across this in the future. If you turn the amp around and peek inside, the first two tubes you see are longer than the others - those are the EL84 power tubes. The row in front, (closer to the grill cloth) are...

I love that look. The bubinga cab and the wicker front!!!

Tightening up a DC-5 - best pedal to use?

I found an RC Booster helped with mild EQ shaping. I used mine with a variety of amps...one was a DC-3.

Where would one go to to test old tubes to see if they are still good?

As already noted, a tube tester is a good way. It would probably be easier to find a tube amp repair person in your area and ask them/pay them to test your tubes. If you opt to buy a tester good ones are costly. Vintage ones can be had, but they could have issues and will likely need to be...

Studio .22+ Lead Drive Gain Mod Pictures?

Old thread and useful info. I never looked over that V3 Plate resistor, (I think it is at the FX Loop). Anyhow, I have done the Lead mod on a previous amp. I have another Studio .22 and decided to set the lead master at "5" on the knob. I tested ~350Kohm on a 500KA pot. So I put in a 330K...

    Awesome Tone at Lower Volume

I love the 1024 speaker cab idea...or the other one with 5000 speakers!!! Call up Mythbusters.... In the guitar amp/speaker/cab world, I had a Studio .22 with a low efficiency speaker. I upped to a 100db efficient speaker and it moved in the right direction. Settled on an Eminence Wizard at...

    Help me choose…..

Glad to see others are hearing the same thing. I was fully expecting to need to change this speaker out. I know part of the reason was my memory of the Ememince Black Shadow (50w?) that was in the Studio .22. I am going to give a G1265 one last chance, but with 97db efficiency I am not sure...

    Help me choose…..

I haven't had a ton of time to demo the speakers. I did try the G1265, the V30 and the Cannabis Rex. They all sounded good and each had their strengths. At this moment I think the stock MC90 is the keeper in that amp. I need to narrow down the best one for cleans and then separately for gain...

    Help me choose…..

Funny enough....I was a bedroom player for a long time. I had done a few jams and a "band" with co-workers at the time. At that time I was using my amp from when I was a kid a 1965 Gibson GA-20RVT (two el84). I decided to get a new amp as we had a punk rock drummer and he was loud as hell. I...

    Help me choose…..

Well, it sounds great. Super easy to dial in, (just went with my friends settings and dialed back the gain a touch. I haven't tried all the modes, (it was on the 30w setting on both channels with warm reverb). This one has the MC-90 in it. It is a nice sounding speaker, it sounded real...

Yes, that is the way I see it.

    Awesome Tone at Lower Volume

Doubling the power is one way to gain +3db. The other is doubling the speakers:

    Help me choose…..

The amp deal is underway. I hope to meet up with my friend who will be in town Friday and I will be trading him some gear in exchange for the LSS. I hope to have it Friday!!!

    Awesome Tone at Lower Volume

If I remember right, as you double the speakers you get a +3db increase. So if you go from 4x12 down to 1x12 that is halving x2 which should be 6db decrease. I think our hearing is 10-12db increase is perceived as twice as loud. So there would be a significant decrease in volume by reducing...

    Help me choose…..

Good suggestion on the Maverick, (I have never seen one in person). If I come across one, I will be eager to try it. Years ago I got a Tremoverb and it was smashed in shipping. I was hoping to keep it and fix the cabinets, or buy new ones, but I had to take it as is, but the seller didn't...

    Help me choose…..

Rarebitusa, that is what I was hoping to hear about the LSS. Mark IV are a little stiff for me liking, (SS rectified and lots of filtering). In the amps I build, I almost always have a GZ34 rectifier, (the only exception is a JCM800 I built). Everything you just stated about what you like...

Eminence texas heat in boogie 1x12 for express 5:5

I used a Texas Heat with a Mark IV and really liked it. With my Express 5:25 I have been using a Cannabis Rex and really like it. I have to say, on an older Mesa Studio .22 that I used to own, the amp was OK as practice amp, but not enough to be used with a band. I opted to put in an Eminence...

    Express 5:25+ bias

The bias is dependent on plate voltage and the tubes in your amp. Out of curiosity, I will measure my 5:25 (non plus version) and let you know what my readings are. I will do that a little later tonight.
