Might ch.1 in tube rectifier mode soften it out some? I just realized I'd been using the diode mode for cleans for quite some time and need to revisit this. :>)
Reading the Mk V manual it doesn't seem clear if the channel 3 Pentode / Triode modes apply to both the 45 and 100 watt modes?
It refers to the configuration of the 45 watt's middle pair power tubes, but also in the 100 watt mode?
Thanks
Might just be the effect of mic distance (vs direct) delay kicking in.
I saved this ref for this -time delay/offset vs primary frequency effected- The lowest freq effected on the far left, plus all the frequencies above.

There...
Yes. Ch3 in MkIV mode for a nice 'crunchy I like. Gain about 9:30-10:00.
But I seldom use anything in the highest gain ranges so it's not like I'll miss what most folks go to Ch3 for.
Thank you Sir! 'Question came up for my mind when someone on a form asked about the use of variacs. I played with one on a Twin for a bit but that was years ago.
Does it reduce voltage to the entire amp, of just certain sections or circuits?
The manual has a fairly straight forward statement about it which leads me to think it may indeed mean everything sees lower voltage, just wondering.
Thanks
First- I'm really a novice to the Mk V.. compared to folks here.
That out of the way..
I found one of my fave moderate gain tones -ironically maybe? was in ch 3 -gain low, Mk IV mode.
Rabinnh' mentioned changed tone with his SS rectifier..?
The two threads could pretty much be combined..
So I'm curious. Lots of other amps -Mesa's or other, are getting along pretty well with the current available tube versions..?
One other if I may. Might there be a chance the SS version...
FWIW my LSS (2009 approximately), went through two of them right off. Also some resistors burned and had to be up sized, but IIR that was a separate issue. Tech -shoot, that's Shane / Tube Sonic may as well give'em a bump! :>) ..got me a pair of NOS, I'm still running solid on the first one...
I would say caution with regard to clean head room and the LSS. I come up short -often in live settings. But I do mean clean here, just to be clear.
I really keen to see how the power level of the 5:50 Express compares, but haven't found the opportunity.
Did they acknowledge the parts indeed ought to be there and are missing? (Assuming they saw the video here.
I can see your point -especially considering the long chain of frustration like that.
On the other hand.. is it -or could it have been, as simple as doing right there with it opened up?
My one regret with the LSS is it simply isn't cutting it for clean head room at stage volumes. I'm currently working on options that I'll be trying out as I gig; either a slave amp and second cab, yuck, bulky! Or going back to my old Pearce with this second cab.
I'd like to try an Express...
I'm running the LSS but have been looking at the Express + series (mostly for perhaps more flexibility in tone control dept, but that another story :?
But I was reading the Express manual and noticed something I hadn't before and is the same for the Lonestars, and that is the suggesting of...
