    Are amps like wine?

My V combo is 6 years old this month. No repair issues, noise, dropouts, etc. I replaced v1 with a groove tube and it was a happy accident. Old one was micro phonic. Mellowed out the high end a little. But this thing is a workhorse. I have played hundreds of gigs with it and practice a couple of...

Suggestions for bright sounding 12ax7's please

Any suggestions on making the V come ALIVE!

Try Using pre set EQ setting on 12 o'clock on each channel...really opens up the sound..

    White noise problem

Just use any good automotive dielectric grease made for electrical connections. I like the clear stuff..they make some real gooey grade for bulbs.. too messy. Just a little keeps the pins and sockets from forming that white powdery deposit.

    Mesa Boogie Mark V Reliable?

Had mine since 2009 dropped it over in the van..no problems with it. Must have 300 or more gigs on it. Plus practice, studio gigs..,been rock solid. I have the combo with a wide body cab. Great duo.. set them 12 feet apart or so HUGE sound.

    White noise problem

good idea to use dielectric grease...just a little on each tube prong. also aids in tube removal. My MkV going on 3 years..very few tube issues. always there.

% of tone - hands vs. rig.

I say 50/50..My teacher used to tell Me "A good guitar player can make anything sound good" Sound is all about touch..But I have to say the V reproduces things I never knew were there...

    Rectifier Tube Blown. Weird Behaviour?

I broke my rec. tube taking the FS switch out of the pouch. The amp would not work properly all the levels were messed up and the sound was awful. I think it is a myth that if its "not in the circuit " it should work..Mine didn't. Must have something to do with the voltage...

How does your Mark V sound during live performances?

I have used my V on well over 200 live gigs in the last 3 or so years. It sounds great to Me but I always ask the sound man, If there is one..or the bass player to go out front and give My sound a listen. It really is diff when you step out 20 or so feet. usually I have to tweak the EQ a little...

Just picked up my 3rd Mark V - my adventure comes to an end.

I think Mesa did a great job in selecting the tubes for the V. I like them when they get a little "old" they loose some of the brittle tone. I have only changed 1 preamp tube for micro phonics and 2 sets of power tubes in 3 years. love it...

Struglling for a warm clean tone on the treble strings

I use Fat and turn pres. down to 9 o'clock. also I use a les paul and have always adjusted the pups on an angle away from treb. strings. also if this is not enough, turn in the screws on the pup on the E and B strings. that should warm it up a bit. The MKV doesn't lie. most guitars are treble...

What tones can you NOT get from a Mark V?

A Marshall is a Marshall and a Boogie is a Boogie..I really think the Mk 5 has a sound all its own.. I don't even try to emulate other amps..this thing is far superior to all the others put together. Enjoy it..make new sounds break new ground
