I think it is an excellent choice as a bedroom amp. One of my favorite settings is Mark IV in 10 watt mode with a slightly modified version of Petrucci's settings that he posted on Youtube a while back. Add a little delay and you get a great tone at a very managable volume level.

I would want the ability to switch between the modes in each channel via the footswitch. I'm sure I can think of other things, but this would be the first change I would want to see.

I have the vertical recto 2x12. Once I switched to EL34's the shrill seemed to be reduced significantly and there is still plenty of punch. Plus like the others said, if that cab is new, the speakers probably need some break in time.
