Preamp tubes for higher gain LSS

I've wanted a bit more oommph on the drive channel for a while but havent been bothered to mess around with it for a bit. Got a few different 12ax7's sitting about and finally got around to swapping out v1 for a Rocket Tubes Nitrous high gain tube ( yes I am a sucker for something with a little...

Turn the fan off or not?

I have the 2x12 combo, so yes there is a fair bit of airspace in the back of it!

Turn the fan off or not?

Hmm, I've got to thinking! I really don't like the noise of the fan in the background, but I've always thought it was provided for a reason, and that you should only turn it off for brief periods whilst recording. -But old school amps never needed a fan and they run quite happily. Are my...

How do I fix the rectifier problem on the LSS?

I also found my LSS was blowing the standard 5y3, - I got a couple of different old NOS 5y3s (cant remember the manufacturers- but will dig out the info if you really want me to!) and that was the problem solved. - I don't think the modern 5y3's are really up to the job, just get a nice NOS one...

almost every topic is a problem?

My LSS has blown two mesa rectifier tubes , - replaced with NOS and no problem since. Trouble free apart from the above, I tend to use mine just as is,( although it does sound righteous through my marshall 4x12's ! :D ) no mods, sometimes I'll put the TC Nova System in the fx loop for a bit of...

    Lets Rock!

Well, that would be the easy answer! Too easy! ( I only put the LSS on the top for the style of it, - nearly gave me a hernia!) :D

    Lets Rock!

Yup, it would look good with the LSS in a head, - but I bought the LSS combo for nice sounding living room practice - Doh! I'm wondering now if I should get a LSC head for playing live through the stack!!!? :?

    Lets Rock!

Thankyou for your reply, I''m hoping the full stupid setup will sound good, - unfortunately, i've just this minute found that my rectifier valve has blown! Hehehe, nowt to do with speaker choice of course! - I've ordered a few replacements right now! I was born in Canada myself by the way, but...

    Lets Rock!

Well, Although I love the sound of my LSS 2x12 combo, I've been wanting some more bottom end chug lately, - so I finally got around to plugging my venerable old Marshall 4x12 into it....... :D Yep, that worked! It sounds fabulous, problem is that if I run both the LSS speakers and the 4x12 at...

Lonestar Reverb -- External Rack Question

Yes, get a meter or oscilloscope on it, unfortunately my 'scope is broken at the moment or I'd have checked the levels on my amp for you. Bah, I'm in the daft position of needing an oscilloscope.....to mend my oscilloscope!

Lonestar Reverb -- External Rack Question

Yes, I see why you want it in the reverb side now so it doesn't affect your main tone.- you're after using it as a parallel fx loop. I agree it is a bit of a bind not to have the fx loop switchable. I'm a bit rusty on my electronics nowadays, but is the signal sent to the reverb spring not a...

    Booster pedal suggestions?

I'm with Mr TimeSignature, I always end up going back to the venerable Ibanez TS9, - although today I've been liking the BB preamp, used as a 'nearly clean' boost! I have a few other boxes, some homemade, some classic or modern, but the TS9, with a bit of careful knob fiddling, always floats my...

Lonestar Reverb -- External Rack Question

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but- Under no circumstances connect your effect unit into the reverb tank in/out section, - it's valve(oops,'tube' to our US pals!) driven and is not an effect loop. - Can't see it damaging the amp but I wouldnt be at all surprised if it fries your effect unit...

Good delay unit for use in effects loop?

Hmmm, the carbon copy sounds good, - but is 600ms enough? Probably, - I'm being fussy! Quite keen on electroharmonix stuff, I have the Holier Grail to provide reverb on my 1977 phoenix (It's solid state output stage has finally gone kaput, and I can't find a replacement, - anybody know where...

Good delay unit for use in effects loop?

I need a knob! tap tempo sucks for me! Maybe I'm a bit 'old school'! also I was more thinking of a simple unit, - the nova looks great, but it does too much, - all I need is a simple box that gives a quiet 300ms and above echo! Built a few BBD units in my time, - wonder if the latest batch of...

Good delay unit for use in effects loop?

Currently I've got an Ibanez de7 in the loop, and it works ok - but..... the **** thing is not unity gain, - it lowers the signal a little bit. It's not really noticable, and I only very rarely use delay, but I find this sort of thing extremely irritating! Any suggestions for a nice...

    Billie Gibbons Tone LSS ?????

Interesting that I seem to set my LSS up with a fair bit more mid and bass than most people on here recommend - But thats the way I like it! I've experimented with the settings suggested on the forum, and they sound good, but I always end up rolling those knobs back up again! In fact, is it...

    Billie Gibbons Tone LSS ?????

Hmmm, I seem to have tried to write too much! .... to continue... Which LP are you using? I'm currently using one of the newfangled raw power studio jobs in plain maple, it's a bit brighter than my standard, which is in the luthiers for a refret, maybe if your using a standard you'll want to up...

    Billie Gibbons Tone LSS ?????

Hi, I'm a great fan of the reverend billy, and play quite a bit of his stuff to amuse myself! I've only had my LSS for a few months, but you can get gorgeous sounds from it The settings I use on ch 2 (at bedroom levels) for pretty much everything are : In 30w mode, drive switch on "thicker"...
