How long does a speaker last? - speaker recommendations?

My main amp now is an early Mark III simulclass (no stripe), although I also have a Mark IIB that's now my spare. I play covers, so from clean for Elvis/Chuck Berry to "medium-distorted rock tone" for various classic rock/modern rock hits. (from AC/DC to the Foo Fighters) I'm not entirely...

How long does a speaker last? - speaker recommendations?

I have an old 1x12 black shadow cabinet that I bought in 1984, and to me, it doesn't sound very good anymore. It sounds brash in the high-end, but the speaker itself looks OK visually. Maybe 25 years just beyond a speaker's lifespan? If I ought to replace it (since it sounds crummy to me, I...

    Volume issues... Help?

Hi there, I currently am using an early-edition (no stripe, larger transformer) Mk III head, which was re-tubed with 6L6s and EL34s within the last 6 months. When I get a really great distorted tone dialed in, it's not loud enough to be heard over the drummer. How can I get the distorted...

    mark 3 serial numbers

I just purchased a loaded no-stripe (MB) Mk III head #15464 (20 numbers later than boogiemon [hello brother!]), and my tech told me it was the "higher voltage" transformer. Where is that stamped transformer ID located? Is it somewhere it can be seen without disassembling anything? It'd be cool...

    Mark III settings

Thanks folks! I neglected to mention mine's a "no stripe" but you probably figured that out when I said "early/high voltage". My cabinets are either a 1-12" Black Shadow that I bought way back when I got my IIb in '84, or a newer (unknown year) 2-12" Vintage Celestion, which sounds w-a-y more...

    Mark III settings

Howdy, I'm new to the board, but not new to Boogie. I have been playing the last 25 years through a Mark IIB (no EQ, 60w) head. However, my band has clamored for me to get a backup, after having an on-stage failure due to a bad tube. So, after scouring craigslist for half a year to find a head...
