Badlander 100 hum in 20 watt mode?

Replacement amp came yesterday and it hums less, but still a bit. Looks like it's: the way she goes boys. New head has a much quieter fan, so i got that going for me, which is nice

Badlander 100 hum in 20 watt mode?

Hi all, just curious if anyone here with the badlander notices a slight hum when switching the amp into 20 watt mode? I contacted mesa support about it and they said it's normal because the "tubes are working harder" in that mode. Not sure I buy that, since my mark v 90 doesn't hum in 10 watt...

Mark V with Rivera Rock Crusher and Wall of Sound

I use the rockercrusher with my mark v 90 and friedman jj jr and the routing is pretty straight forward. Take the rockercrusher's line out into your daw (may sure the levels aren't overloading there), then in your daw software, route the line in and apply speaker impulses via the torpedo. My...

How did I blow a 12ax7 so quickly?

As other have said, tube life is a crap shoot. The rectifier in my brand new mark v blew within an hour. Way she goes boys.

    good repair shops in MN?

My Mark V had developed a bad case of the static and hum that no amount tube swapping or cable substitution has resolved. Anyone from MN recommend a good repair shop? I see the list on Mesa's site, but I'm looking for first hand experience. thanks!

    Older Mark V 90w vs New Mark V 90w

What are the footswitch differences between the old an newer version? I wasn't aware they ever changed.

Driving the Mark V 90w for the best sound

I have the full size v and have it hooked up with a rivera rock crusher and use the rock crusher for silent recording the V into my daw (killer). The rockcrusher also works as an attenuator and there is no difference in sound using the V's master vs the crusher's attenutator. I've also owned a...

    Looking for speakers

I've tried the following speakers/cabs with my mark v 90. Avatar premier vintage 1x12 open back (celestion gold). This is my favorite of the three Avatar premier vintage 2x12 closed back (green back ri x greenback ri). Second favorite Avatar premier vintage 2x12 closed back (v30 x g12h30)...

    Slave out for recording signal?

I record direct with my V and use speaker impulses. I tried the slave out in the past but found it too noisy when compared to the line out on my river rockcrusher. I also used a thd hotplate with good results.

developed noise in Mark V at startup

I always gotten a little buzz noise through the speaker when powering on (in standby). I can recreate the noise when switching power modes on the amp (still on standby).

And for those with the head version, speaker paring makes a huge impact on tone.

Best silent playing/recording option for Mark V 90W?

Yes, that silences your cab. I still keep one connected though. I used to use a thd hotplate with excellent results and I'm currently using a rivera rockcrusher. There are many different ones to choose from.

Best silent playing/recording option for Mark V 90W?

I recommend a load box between your amp and speaker, then take the line out from the load box into your DAW where you apply speaker impulses to simulate a speaker cab. Speaker sims are more flexible (in imo sound better) that fixed speaker emulation devices like the cab clone. One added bonus...

    rapid channel switching problem

Yep, it's the foot switch cable not being seated into the foot switch all the way.

    Channel 1 volume, gain issues

Next step I would take would be installing a new set of power tubes.

    Channel 1 volume, gain issues

I would check to be sure both channel 1 and 2 are set to the same rectifier mode (either both tube or both diode) just to be sure.

    Channel 1 volume, gain issues

Are you running your channels in 45 watt mode? If so, using the tube rectifier give a lower volume than diode rectifier and that can contribute to channel one being quieter.

    10 watt vs 90 Watts

Try swapping the far left two power tubes with the far right two power tubes. The far left (v8 and v10) are used by the 10 watt mode while 90 watt modes uses all four power tubes. If that makes the 10 watt mod sound bad, then you know it's those power tubes. See page 62 in the manual for the...
