Your amp probably had the dry signal wire removed. Does the mix knob change anything when it is turned? So many users dislike the loop circuit and leave it bypassed. They say it kills the tone.

Dont let non GEQ keep you from thinking this is not a face melter. With an MXR 10 band in the loop it hangs with my Mark V. The III is more aggressive actually. I can vouch for this piece of history.

The IV has a bit more hair on the top end. Mid range is much more pronounced in the Extreme mode. Extreme is somewhat tighter too. Over all Extreme is smoother. At least thats what I hear.
