    Greenbacks?

It may well depend on what type of music you play wether Greenbacks work for you. For classic rock I love greenbacks. Until I got some I was never able to nail the classic tones I heard on so many albums. With my TC I run a 1x12 with a Creamback and a 2x12 with 1 cream back and 1 V30. I’ve...

    Triple Crown vs Electra Dyne

Hey man, I have both, but went the other way in terms of head vs combo. I have an ED head and the TC combo. The TC combo only weights a little more than the ED head and is certainly easier to move than the ED and 1x12 box or RA100 and 2x12. Tone wise the TC is my favourite amp. It is certainly...

TC-100.......I knew I should have waited!!

Nice to have more options. The 50 is plenty for me though so I won't be getting the 100. only having to replace one pair of power tubes is a nice change over my 100 watt RA and ED.

    Tube Rattle and Combos

while combos will certainly expose problem tubes I've never had any issues with them in any of mine. If your TC50 is fairly new the tubes may still be covered by the warranty. My TC50 would have clocked up several hundred hours so far including many rehearsals at gig levels. I do keep a few sets...

If you get one, give it time to blossom!

Ahh, disregard what I previously said about plate voltage. After checking my notes it was not the RA that was 450. My RA measured 415V and the TC 456V. Plate current is probably also higher, but the TC came with blue vs yellow grade tubes in the RA so it isn't an apples to apples comparison...

If you get one, give it time to blossom!

The TC50 is my only Mesa amp with stock tubes. I was expecting to swap a few Tungsol 12ax7 tubes in, but am so happy with the tone as is that I am not likely to bother. I did like the Mesa El34 tubes in my RA, but the preamp tubes were shuffled until I found a combination of Tungsol and one...

If you get one, give it time to blossom!

I've been quiet for a while here, but the TC50 is my favourite Mesa amp without doubt. I've had the combo for about 4 months now and really don't play anything else. I was taking my Express 5:25 to practice as it was getting to much to drag the RA and cab. Since getting the combo it always goes...

Question for those with a Mesa Electradyne

Yep, that's the ED. I find an open back C90 speaker like the combo to be very bass heavy and muddy. My humbucker guitars, SG and LP are virtually unusable on the neck pickup. A closed back cab does help tighten things up. I generally don't have the bass higher than 9:00 with those guitars unless...

    Succumbed to GAS

TC50 channel 2 and RA100 vintage Lo are very similar, much more so than than ED. I see the TC channel 2 as an evolution of the Ra Vlo. The notable differences are the TC has more gain and wider tone control range. While I love the RA100, at times I would want a bit more In the upper mids and top...

    Succumbed to GAS

The first thing I did was look in the back of the head unit my local shop had to see what iron and reverb tank the TC 50 had. I was a bit disappointed to see the short tank, but since it sounds good in the Mark V:25 there wasn't much reason to doubt it in the TC (and it does sound great as you...

    Succumbed to GAS

I like the 6v6 tubes too. At home they help to get thing cooking much sooner regarding volume and the clean tone is sweeter. After about a week the EL34s went back in as I wanted the headroom and extra punch for an outdoor gig. I've found that as the volume is increased the TC50 gets brighter...

Was hoping for this forum to grow more....

I've got an out door gig in the next few weeks so we will see (probably won't be using the clean channel for any of the songs though). I don't have any fear of running out of head room at this stage, though may need to get the amp up on a stand to help it project. During some testing today the...

Was hoping for this forum to grow more....

The Channel masters on the TC-50 also set the Efects send level according to the manual. So if you are overloading a pedals input you can reduce the send level. I'm using a Flaschback with my TC and so far have not noticed any issues with the channel masters at 12:00. The TC loop certainly...

    Cab clone vs Mic

The Cab clone sounds really mid Heavy to me and the real mic recording scooped. Vastly different sounding. Which Cab clone mode did you use, vintage ? Just as a curiosity, how loud was it running for the recording ?

    Still looking for ED alternative

That amp can do some very good ED type tones. Seems to have some great features too. Certainly worth checking out for someone looking at getting an ED.

Mesa Boogie RA100 - Power Board burned

Sorry to hear about this. The RA is a great amp. I bought two or three sets of the winged c 6L6 tubes for my Electra dyne from their final production. 6 of them went out of spec within hours and often exhibited red plates while operating. I checked the bias and they were running well in spec...

    New ElectraDyne released by Mesa

Thanks for that, good advice. My settings are pretty similar to yours, but I probably have the mids lower. I'll try it with extra mid. I seem to remember wth the bass set low something gets lost in the mids as well. Is yours the wide or compact combo?

    TC50 Combo

Good to hear the combo sounds good. I have been hoping the combo will deliver, but we won't be seeing them before mid Feb. Have been looking for a decent combo myself for a few years and can't find anything that has the tone, features and convenience I'm looking for. I probably would have gone...

    NEW MESA TC-50 VIDEO

I don't think there is too much studio magic going on. Based on having played one those are the tones the TC50 makes. I'm expecting to get the combo version assuming it still sounds good in that config, but we are going to have to wait until Feb before we see any Tc50s here.

Really excited about the Triple Crown Series

I generally like the extra low end tightness of 100 watt amps. Having sad that the TC 50 is pretty tight. when I cranked the clean channel (through a Recto 2x12) it held on pretty well. It did start to compress the bass a little as well as clip the power section, but it was louder than I would...
