Gold lions blew out two screen grid resistors on my lss. They will not last long in our amps, I posted obout this topic in Tubes. good luck.
BTW they do sound great until they let go.
I have the STR (special tube request) el84's. The JJs do seem to have a bit more headroom, less breakup. all though I think the TAD has a nicer bass responce. But I run my bass low and use the mids to round it out I also use emgs so YMMV.
I have tried both and IMO TAD does it. I like a swanky and harmonic drive with alot of overtones and it gets me there without pedals. the JJs are a bit cleaner, but the TADs feel right. BTW I use tung sol re 12ax7s
Currently I use the ch. 2 gain @ 4 and drive @ 3 O'clk... My treble 9, mid 12, bass 9. I use my presence to pull off or add edge. I use a cele. gold and ev sro. my guitars all have active electronics, strats and lps. I use the volume pot to make adjustments. Im recording right now so I will get...
Yep, I agree. But it was suggested to me at a rehersal lately that some fx would be nice. I like to keep the lss simple because of the pure character of the amp, wah thats it. I have a tc g system I use for my soldano but I dont know...
I did it with a LS 1x12 ext cab to tighten up my other open back cab. It did exactly what I expected tighter, edgier and focused. The two cabs complement each other nicely. I only use the closed back with the open or when recording, by itself it can sound a little boxy, not bad though. I use it...
Ive been playing around with a CG I bought used on ebay. IMO it negates the tone mods. I once looked into changing to tens and now Im happy how tight and somewhat scooped the CG 12 is.
I am very happy with my EV SRO coffee cans. I have no if this is true but, an EV tech told me the CG is very similer to the old SRO in sound comparison. I found a set on ebay $75 ea. Ive got my pair in separate 1x12 cabs and a head, this works out nice for small and larger gigs. One thing they...
A few weeks back I got a set of GL EL84s from thetubestore.com and would like to share my findings. The day I got them I instaled them in my LSS with ri tong-sol 12ax7s. I was blown away by how much better they sounded than the JJs and the factory set, more complex and the harmonic overtones...

You could have damaged the yjs with the bad power tubes. Where the tubes arching? I had a similer problem when I had a power tube short out and the yj took a hit before the fuse blew. The problem did not present itself till later. I by no means am an expert but I would suspect the adapter. good...
I have used both and there is a detailed diffrece from the 57 and 906e. You can get by with the 57, but to hear what the amp really sounds like the 906e is the way to go. The filter switch is also very hepful.
