Mark series experts, help a brother out?

Yeah, blue 60's don't seem to be that common. i had a couple earlier stripes that were 60 though & they were great. The up-side is that the 60 watt-ers weigh less and (imho) sound just fine as compared. i had a blue (SC) also & it was too bright for me before i had it "+"-ed @ the factory. rock on

Mark series experts, help a brother out?

not much to find: two tubes means 60 watts. Almost certainly 6L6's unless someone's done some serious modification.

    Joe Bonamassa silky lead tone

took a quick listen to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtCxHe3D1ek if this recording has the tone you're talking about i don't see the problem w/getting pretty close w/a Mark. Humbuckers will help & use some reverb.

Do power tubes need to be matched if...

Thnx! good to know. got another question then. Forgive my ignorance: If a tube is not broken/defective, is it even possible for it to operate outside the paramaters of a given circuit given that the cathode resistor is a fixed value? That is, doesn't the cathode resistor limit the bias somehow...

Do power tubes need to be matched if...

...they're going into a cathode-biased, class A amp? My understanding is that class A/B is push-pull & so the tubes need to be matched, but how does this relate to class A? Also, if the biasing is automatic (cathode) and the amp supports either 6L6's or EL34's will it also allow mixing of the...

    Sick of my EVM-12L's

The original EVM-12L's really are best in a closed-back or ported cab imho. in the mark combos they sound good too, but can be a bit harsh/sterile unless you warm up the power section w/the right tubes and/or get some smoother tubes in the preamp. Back in the day, they were exceptional in their...

    Another tone tip

ok, so i'm going to have to retract. Based on my 1st experience, i bought two more of these but they don't sound the same: crap. i'm so tired of tube swapping. i swear i'm going to break down & buy a maxi-matcher one of these days.

    Mark III speaker

The EV is a great speaker: i would keep it but the C90 is also ok in a combo cab. The V30 won't sound so nice in a combo imho.

So, Should I MOd My Mark III?

My M3's don't have the R2 mod & i don't see the need. Switching from R1 to R2 is more like a "fat boost" & R2 is actually a little louder than R1. ymmv
