    I would suggest you have the board checked for cold solder joints. Some of those resistors carry big currents so they and the solder joints get hot.

    bartchamdoh, good history of the Caliber. I think the dates you supplied for the 50 + are a bit wrong. I have a Caliber 50 + and the signatures on the chassis, in felt pen, are dated mid 1990. Cheers.

    Might be sticking my neck out here but meh. What do you mean by the reverb transformer? Do you mean the little Transducers on either side of the springs in the tub? If so, get a DVM and measure each plug between both contacts. So you are completing each circuit. If get a reading in Ohms, then...

    When the amp is in standby, the only circuit working is the valve filament supply, 6.3 v. So you're drawing current through the pwr tranny. Whether it would shorten the life of the valves I'm not too sure. But would prob do less damage than switching amp straight off instead of powering down to...

    Mate , I think you might be seeing the earth wire. on 6L6 version, that is a wire braid that is soldered to the spring tub and on to the circuit board earth.
