    Best overdrive for lead tone

There we go!...+3 I might use a fuzz/overdrive into channels 1/2 for some more old school lead tones (ala Jimi or Clapton)...but "smooth, singing lead tones"? As the saying go's, "it's already in there baby!" :D

looking for audio comparison between 6L6/EL34

"I've seen a lot of talk about how different one tube is or another, how the 6l6 is like velvet pancakes and the el34 is like warm courduroy peanut butter" Love that description man, now I'm hungry! I think that both types of tubes have their own sweet properties. I made the switch to the SED...

    Incoming NAD!!

Yep, it should sound at least alittle better than donkey flatulence! Seriously though, I've had mine for a year full now, and it still continues to inspire me to play better everytime I turn it on. This is the first time in 5 years that I have'nt had any thoughts of changing up amps. For a...

Is variac setting not enough anymore???

Thanks man! I learn something new to try just about everytime I log on here, and I've had my amp for a full year now! By the way, have you been to rehab yet for your addiction, or are you not ready just yet to give up the stuff? ( )

Boogie Mark V page on Facebook!

I've never had the previlege of meeting John, but he seems like a very nice fellow, and I for one believe that with all that he gives thru his time & talent, he deserves a small measure of privacy should he choose to keep his Facebook account strickly for family and choice friends...

Dumb noobie question on power tube changing

Nothing else really to add here guy, except that when ya flip the bias to the EL34 position, the red caution light will come on, but do not be alarmed at this, or think something may be wrong, it should be lit. It sort of freaked me out abit when it came on until I found out that it should be!

    Favorite guitar / pickup?

Salvatruco, have you ever played the Air Norton as well? If so, how would you compare it to the Liquifire? How is it different? Thanks!

    Almost 1 year now....

Man, I bet that IS a great combo! I'd love to hear that mix if you're able to throw something together some time!

    Almost 1 year now....

Oh yes, last year round this time, I remember it all too well! The wait, the agony, the delays, the mis-information, the griping! And now, just about a year later, was it all worth it? Abso-****-lutely! I have'nt had the desire to purchase/trade for, or even play thru another amp since then...

    Favorite guitar / pickup?

I's using a Motor City Pickups Afwayu in the bridge (thanks Wade!), and a Bareknuckles Coldsweat in the neck position of a mahogany Carvin bolt-on. Absolutely great pickups from both companies. I get smoothness, and excellent articulation with the Afwayu under high gain. And the Coldsweat is...

    I ordered a Mark V!!!

Congradulations man, you're gonna love it, trust us! I remember my wait period last year around this time, let's see, what was that like again,.. oh yeah, I remember now... It was sorta like having to watch Scarlette Johansson undress in front of you, then having her srut around the house...

Are JJ EL34L tighter than Mesa EL34 str 447?

I absolutely agree! What little hit you take in tightness on the bottom end, you more that make up for with sweeter highs, and a chewier midrange. And actually, (at least for me) the Mark 5 is a tight enough amp personality wise in the first place (especially in pentode op) I quess if you're...

    Say guys, quick question...

As usual, you guys are right there! Thanks alot everyone! I tossed those jokers in alittle while ago, and so far I'm really digging em! A marked improvement in the channel 2 modes, particularily in the high end, smoothing things out, and definately giving that channel somewhat more of a...

    Say guys, quick question...

...what's the EL34 bias range for the Mark 5? I've got a couple of sets and I'd like to be sure that they are both within the proper range. Thanks!

Confession: I still use the Preset EQ, even after 4 months

Thanks everyone for chiming in on the 34's. I ordered a quad from Tube Depot, they should be here in the next couple of days! I'll report in and give my 2 cents worth. Don't ya just love being able to take an already great amp, and being able to make it other worldly? :)

Confession: I still use the Preset EQ, even after 4 months

Thanks alot Bud! You're helping me to become about 90-100 bucks poorer! But that's just what I needed to hear, an improvement in the, "Marshally" flavor of things! Thank you again...anyone else?

    Diggin' Channel 3 Extreme mode!!!

I've been singing the praise's of the extreme mode for almost a year now. I really believe some folks don't give it a fair shot and spend enough time on it. For me, it's clear, versatile, and grinds! Plus it cuts through a mix with some real attitude! But hey, all three modes on channel 3 are...
