Quad vs. Mark IIc+ vs. Mark III who has compared them?

I never use lead drive of more than 5 on my Quad for HB guitars, that's enough to play Slayer or more saturated for example. I often back it down to 4. I'll sometimes use up to 6-7 for traditional single coil guitars.

    IM A PICKUP NOOB HELP!

Nuno and Dime both had this figured out: L500XL + '59N. I did that in my ash Charvel and couldn't be happier.

Why Are Mark Vs So Expensive?

The Mark V is basically perfection as a result of all the lessons learned over the years from the Mark series regarding balance, separation, etc. People are willing to pay for that.

Quad Preamp volume drop on Ch 2

If I gave someone $150 for nothing in return, there would be a problem regardless if the amp functioned or not! I had a tech go through mine a while back and give it a complete cleaning after it started becoming inconsistent and weak sounding. I was afraid I was going to have to replace the...

    Can Boogies be addictive?

Yes, and my particular addiction is the Mark flavor, although I dig the other models also and can see myself eventually having all Marks, and at least one Fillmore, Lonestar, and maybe a Transatlantic or a California.

R.I.P. Dimebag 9 years gone! Brutal!

I remember it like yesterday, I was driving somewhere on a cold afternoon and the message came on over the radio. At first I couldn't believe it and thought I was imagining things, so I turned it up to hear the full story and it eventually sunk in hours later. I figured it was probably 10...

Quad vs. Mark IIc+ vs. Mark III who has compared them?

My Quad has MILES of gain! More than my MkIII no stripe, which is no slouch. Mine gets extra aggression by having the 2:90 in Modern mode and is savage. I couldn't imagine ever needing more gain for '80s Thrash, which is the most extreme music I play. More saturation beyond the deep end of...

Is anyone playing blues with a Mk IV?

I get a scorching blues tone on channel R2 with my MkIV combo + Theile 1x12 using light to moderate gain, but a guitar with toasty pickups (which is what people needed in the old days since amps had little gain). One of my Charvels with a Duncan Parallel Axis Trembucker (doesn't look like a...

    New Quad Owner *with vid*

My Quad is also the way, but it is apparently part of the oddball design. The original manual gives the recommended starter settings which work well together. As much as I love the face-melting thrashy intensity of Chan 2, I must say Chan 1 is more inspiring for lead work much of the time...

    Cap that shouldn't be?

Drain you of your sanity Face the cap that should not be! Sorry, carry on....

New quad - large volume drop after a few minutes

I had the same problem recently and took it to a local guru for a thorough checkup and dreading the possible results. Turns out a simple cleaning was all it needed. Gents, remember these old warriors are now 30 years old!!! Don't wait until you have this issue, give them a well deserved bath...

    NGD Steinberger.

Tend to be used by people who lean toward prog and/or metal. They have incredible note clarity and ease of playing. Reeves Gabrels (Tin Machine, Bowie) described his as being so easy to play (fast) that they are a bit frightening. They do have rather flat scales, which is modern in...

Best Guitar & Pickup combo for a IIc+?

I have a MkIII no stripe + and a Quad, which are both close enough in character to the IIC+ lead channel. I haven't found anything that doesn't sound GREAT through them. But I tend to venture most between '80s metal tones ranging from the original Bay Area Bangers (pioneering thrash, early...

    Mark IV is amazing!

I haven't felt the need at all to venture beyond the MkIV gen. Between that and my III + Quad, I think I have the Mark Universe well covered. 8)

    Stripe advice Mark III

Yes it is. The black stripe III has my favorite Lead channel of all time, and is the basis for 1/2 of my favorite Boogie of all time, the mighty Quad!

Do you cut, or leave them long?

Always cut as close as possible.

Ernie Ball Music Man Majesty Monarhy

I have not yet played the Majesty, but I have played a couple of the current JP models, which are already extremely comfortable and FULL of tone. The idea behind the Majesty was to streamline the original concept even more to have the ultimate in comfort, a high performance live guitar for...

Give it up for the Mark III, once and for all!

This isn't news to me, I've been using my MkIII head almost exclusively for my entire adult life! The key to everything is understanding the interaction of the bass and treble rotary knobs in conjunction with the mighty Presence control. I also love my MkIV, but it's not my wife. The...

    Mark III doing sabbath...

Very well done! Enjoyed your various covers. I've done instrumental covers of this song and Seasons in the Abyss as well. With a little tweaking, I find that the MkIII can easily pull off a variety of Marshall sounds as well as classic supercharged '80s Boogie like no other! Here are a...

Express 3/4 back cabinet for MkIII??

Yep, I have a Thiele EVM12L cab to match my MkIV combo, and it is glorious since it is basically 1/2 of my favorite 4x12. Like everything else, I guess Marks are also finicky with cabs!! I know Petrucci likes recto cabs for his Marks, but I'm not feelin' it.....
