Should I order a custom Mesa Thiele?

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-musical-instruments-amps-pedals-1x12-Speaker-Cabinet-W0QQAdIdZ217960111# I'm talking to a local gentleman about building me a mesa thiele copy. You can check out his work in the link above, he only wants $185 usd for an unloaded cab, I think it's gonna be...

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

That was very well said, I think you laid out the problems AI faces. I think instead of a magical transformation that turns dumb, logical based AI into human level intelligence will be a slow process, like puzzles falling into place. AI is already great at storing data, much better than the...

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

Individual taste is all good by me man, but there is no animosity here, just a friendly discussion about whether digital technology will be capable of succeeding or superceding vacuum tube technology one day.

    Mk III

I set mine on something like volume 7, presence 4, bass 2 pulled and the higher tabs on the GEQ lowered, pull bright on lead channel and a clean boost on R2 and Lead channels. This will give you a relatively pristine clean, that's got enough bass and not overly bright, and a R2 and lead that has...

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

That was really well said Ando, and I hope more artists / engineers take on the job so we could collectively enjoy tube sound AND feel with solidstate utility! @Lerx Comparing LPs to 500 mp3 cds is like comparing a ferrari to a crippled donkey. Would you be so confident at a blind test between...

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

Actually I think peavey is on the right path with the revalver. If you can use a program to accurately replicate an analog signal path, then you can play around with arranging caps, resistors, tubes, pots, etc like you would a real tube amp, this way it's much more cost effective, and you could...

    Mark III to the DC-5/10

I very much agree with the above observation, mesa = bright, raw, spanky/punchy. DC-5 = little hairy, but sweet, and darker/smoother. You could dial them in to be pretty close but I ended up with a III since R2 boosted is just amazingly tight and perfect for me.

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

I personally think tube amp might be like the landline telephone, sure it's still got some advantages like consistently good signal, but as soon as cell phones can do what it can do, it'll pretty much go extinct. Maybe not extinct, certainly relicated.

    Custom Thiele, Yes or No?

No sir, 250 each, basically how much boogafunk charges for an unloaded.

You forgot "technical know-how: priceless." :p

    Custom Thiele, Yes or No?

****, and I thought his price was fair. @_@ Definitely thanks for that. edit: when you said cost you $140, did you mean the raw materials? I would try this myself but I have absolutely no woodworking tools, lol.

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

The first PCs did something like a few million instructions per second, and had like 512kb of ram, they cost $20,000. My pc does a few billion instructions per second, and has 8gbs of ram, that's a few thousand times more powerful, and it cost $2000/ Before the first PC we had calculators, which...

    Custom Thiele, Yes or No?

I'm trying to do a stereo rig, one side is a mark iii blue stripe, I'll be spending most of my time in R2 with a clean boost in front. Other side will be a peavey rockmaster + classic 60 power amp rig. I like cabs that are easy to carry but sound bigger and thicker than your average 112s or even...

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

I know I may be going pretty far here, but one day we will have the ability to scan the exact atomic configuration of any object and replicate it exactly with nanomachines, this configuration can then be stored, recalled and altered at will. That means there is almost no distinction at all...

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

I certainly don't want to convince anyone if they don't believe in digital, there is something that's unquantifiably cool about having a real vacuum tube amplifier, I have a few so I know. :) But objectively speaking, we're approaching the computational capacity of a human brain, we're modeling...

    Custom Thiele, Yes or No?

Hi fellas, I'm thinking of ordering a pair of custom built thieles. The builder says they're made to exact thiele specs, and use good quality baltic birch ply and canadian maple. I can order any tolex I want, and I'm thinkin' Orange tolex ala Orange amps with black hardware and a black grill...

    MK IV: rack depth?

About power conditioners, I'm trying to find one that also steps down from 220v to 110v, but I can't find anything that's rackmount, only big blocky ones, anyone know where I could find a rackmount step down transformer/conditioner?

    MK IV: rack depth?

Uh, well I'm a cheap ******* so I'm ordering a no name brand from china(where I live), it's an 8u for about 100 bucks. No idea if it's well built, it's pretty much a gamble.

    MK IV: rack depth?

I found that my mark iii is 10", and most of the other FX units I need are also 10", so I'm going with 10". :)
