I have found the opposite with the Recto, great all round rock amp, the stock amp without some sort of boost is not a metal amp at all IMO. I seem to have gotten the heavier sound I was looking for out of it for now though, but as for taming the thing down, easily done by tweaking your channel...

Great pedal, send level around 11.30 to 12 oclock, and mix level around 90 percent, close to dimed, but I find it best with slightly backed off, adjust pedal effect level to around 2 oclock. Adjust pedal to taste, works perfect for band levels.
