Mark IV with MJM Blues Devil = SRV/JIMI/ROBIN TROWER heaven

Wow, all thoughts of not being able to get a SRV strat-sound out of a Mark I are now all out the window. I just experienced tonal nirvana this afternoon, sorry i sound a bit flustered. Some of you who have ready my previous posts will know that i have a MarkIVa imbuya combo and have recently...

Would you buy a Mark IV if it was made by another brand?

Someone told me that 'guitarists often listen with their eyes' and with boogies commonly being such 'eye candy' pieces, and Mesa being such a reputable brand, i sometime think about my MarkIV, and whether i would have bought it if it was from another, less enviable brand name like say Peavey or...

MarkIVa with Vintage30 is a good idea so far

I have been cranking my MarkIVa Imbuya combo now that it has a Vintage30 in it and i have to say i like it best than the EV. The Vintage30 seems to handle Rhythm2 better; I'm able to get better strat tones ala SRV, Hendrix out of it (I could NEVER do that with the EV12!) and the cleans are nice...

Balancing the output of an ext cab out of the MarkIV combo

Hi all, Hardwood MKIVa compact combo owner here. I recently have swapped the EV12 it came with for a Vintage 30 which was in a 112 recto box, so i now have a Vintage30-loaded combo and a EV12 recto box underneath. I have noticed that when plugging in the extension cab, the combo speaker goes...

Mark IV: hardwood vs standard cabinet tone differences

In another post i discuss changing the EV12 inside a hardwood mark IV compact combo for the Vintage 30 in my ext 112 Recto cab. I ended up doing this but found that a lot of the harshness i attributed to the EV was still there, and therefore am thinking that the hardwood cab might be to blame...

Best speaker for Mark IV compact combo

Hi all, I have a 1991 Mark IV Imbuya with the original EV12 in it but playing around with my 1x12" recto box with vintage 30, i realized tha a lot of my dislikes with the amp actually might actually have related to the EV more than anyting else (particularly with Rhythm 2). I am thinking of...

Help me date my Mark IVa!

Hi guys, Who knows how to date a Mark IVa Hardwood combo? Where's the serial number on these bad boys? Thanks! Noe5 a href="http://s973.photobucket.com/albums/ae216/Noe2575/Music%20gear/?action=view&current=MarkIV3-4.jpg" target="_blank"><img...

Mark IV: "Normal" FX loop vs "Switchable" FX loop

Hello everyone, Owner of a 1990 (I think?) Short body hardwood/wicker grille Mark IV combo. I love this amp, I look at it, stare at it, dream about it, wouldn't trade it for anything in the world (and I own a 100% original 1956 Bassman and 1957 tweed Deluxe). Anyway, back to the topic: do any...

Has anybody ever turned their Mark IV to 10 on th master?

...either in tweed or full power modes? I just did, standing right in front of the amp (which is about pickup height as it sits on a 1x12 cab), and it was really underwhelming. I just tried the clean and R2, and it wasn't really loud (without bein plain quiet either). I run the respective...

Mark IV owners: who thinks the Mark V sucks?

...I heard it briefly at NAMM, not impressed. I generally haven't like much from Mesa since the Mark IV. Not a big fan of rectos for instance. Any educated opinions oon the matter out there?

Mark IV and strats = loveless mariage?(or maybe its just me)

No, no, no I am not talking about my private life here... Just that I finally got a decent sound out of my Les Paul DC and the Mark IV combo using an extra 12" recto box. However, I still can't get my strat to sound any good on there. I am almost at the point of throwing this amp in the trash...

Does any one use a compressor with their Mark IV?

What kind of compressor do you use? Pedal or rack? Between guitar and amp, or in the effects loop? On which channels?

I am putting a Vintage 30 in my Mark IV hardwood short combo

...the EV on its own is just too brittle on tops. I need creamy mids and the Vintage 30 does that better. I will have the EV in a ext cab underneath, hopefully it will act more like a subwoofer that way. I am however worried about blowing the V30 which rates at only 60 W. If I keep at or...

Favourite choice of speaker for the MK IV 1x12" short combo

I have got an EVM in mine and am thinking of swapping it for a Vintage 30 or other celestion. I play blues/rock/fusion and a bit of metal. Any recommendations you could share? Keep in mind, I have got a hardwood version as well, which I believe makes quite a difference to the sound. The EVM...

Does a Mark IV need processing to get to its full potential?

I have seen many videos on youtube and read articles about people using DBX compressors/gate into the effects loop, as well as BB preamps or tube screamers in front as well...etc. I find the raw sound of the Mark IV, particularly Rhythm 1 and Rhythm 2, to be a bit underwhelming. I had a Peavey...

Mark IV effects loop: parrallel or serial?

I believe the Mark IV effects loop to be a parrallel. If so wouldn't things like noise gates and compression not be performing properly if inserted in the effects loop? Also, is there any way to route my processors in a serial effects loop fashion?

My Mark IV combo sounds boxy compared to other 1x12" combos

[/url] Hello, my name is Noe5, definite newbie so bear with me. I have had my Mark IV for over 10 years now, passed down from my Dad. I have a real love/hate relationship with it and feel that I still don't know the amp all that well. One of my biggest grippes with it is the fact that it...
