Should I trade my mark 5:35 combo???

I had a MK5:35 for about 3 years, until I auditioned a California Tweed 440 head. I traded the MK5:35 in on the CaliTweed and haven't looked back. I never used the very high gain modes, ever, and while the cleans were great, the CaliTweed brings just a touch more high mids to those great cleans...

Why no category for the California Tweed Amp series yet?

How much of a sonic difference will I hear if I change out the stock C90 speaker in my old Mesa 27" wide 1X12 for a Jensen Blackbird Alnico (40 or 100) to go with my CaliTweed 440 head. I got that cab back when the TA15 first came out as the cab to go with that amp. It's 27" wide because is was...

So, what amps do you own?

I have a TA15 Head that I truly love back when they were released and got a California Tweed 440 Head last fall. I use a Mesa 27" wide 1X12 Mesa cab with the stock C90 speaker in it for use with either head (that extra width was originally for the Lone Star Classic head). I'm thinking about...

Why no category for the California Tweed Amp series yet?

Seems like the CaliTweed has been in circulation for a bit and it's been very well received. Could we get a California Tweed sub-forum for that amp?

New Cali-Tweed 4:40 head owner looking for speaker recco's

So would the 40 watt Blackbird really be enough to handle the 440 head volume? 40 watt amp w/40 watt speaker kinda makes me a little nervous.

New Cali-Tweed 4:40 head owner looking for speaker recco's

bandit2013 thanks so much for your input - very helpful. I think I'm going to have to go ahead and get a Blackbird 100 for the old Lone Star Classic 27" wide 1X12 cab I have and I can see how you had to take the bell cover off. Here's my 440 head with that cab and it's stock C90 - it sounds ok...

    Best cab for TA15?

Yes, I use a 27" wide 1X12 open back cab with the stock C90; the one that was built for the Lone Star Classic head (hence the extra width from their normal 1X12 cab). It sounds great with that cab. I also use my Matchless 2X12 open back cab if we do outdoor gigs in the summer with my TA15 (it...

    TA-15 Head -Reverb or Delay

I have a Boss RV6 that I use in front of my TA15 - it sounds great. I generally use the Plate reverb and set the delay for some slap-back real short delay to fatten the signal. I also run my TA15 through my old Matchless 2X12 open back cab. My small board for the TA15 is as follows: Tuner...

New Cali-Tweed 4:40 head owner looking for speaker recco's

Really - no one's got any opinions on speakers for the CaliTweed 440 head. I have an old 27" wide Mesa 1X12 open back from that was made for the Lone Star Classic head, with it's stock C90 that I'm running the 440 head through because I already own it. Should I get a Blackbird Jensen for that...

    Any G&L People Here??

I have my late '90's G&L Thinline Special. It's a Honeyburst Maple top over Ash guitar with an Ebony Neck. I few years back I put Fralin P90's in it. I got a Pearloide pick guard cut for the P90's so the guitar would retain the original factory look (with exception to the pickups).

So, what amps do you own?

Mesa's that I have are the TA15 and a California Tweed 440 Head and an older 27" wide Mesa 1X12 cab I got when I got the TA15 when it first came out - a LoneStar Classic 1X12 w/Black Shadow 12". I also have an early Carr Rambler (chassis 119), a VHT Special 12/20 non-reverb 1X12 combo, and a...

New Cali-Tweed 4:40 head owner looking for speaker recco's

I just traded in my trusty old mid-90's Victoria Double Deluxe for a Cali-Tweed 4:40 head. I have a 27" wide Mesa 1X12, the one they made for the Lone Star Classic head, that I'm plugging the Cali-Tweed head into now. I do have a Jensen N12-100 I could put in that cab. Looking for any other...

My Mark Five 90 is trashed/ Resolved 2/14/22

You're on the right track in sending it back to Petaluma, a lotta moving parts in there; the factory folks should be able to sort it. It's a shame the amp is so very confused, Mesa will sort it..

Mark 35 combo or 25 Head w. cab?

I've had my MV:35 combo for a few years now and can't report any "boxy" sound at all. I have put a Celestion Neo Creamback in the combo and it's a very complimentary speaker for that amp, and it saves a little weight. We did a private party last night in a big Banquet Hall on a stage that was...

Can Mark Five 35 do AC style chime?

Agree w/BMW-Ktm as well. My MV:35 does all he describes and well. If I want to lean into Vox AC15 voice I fire up my TA15 on the Vox Channel 1. It nails Vox AC15 and the AC15 Top Boost voice "like a ring in a bell". The TA30 will do that too - both are discontinued but available used. Good...

analog delay in Mark V 25 effects loop

I have the Mark V:35 and have successfully used an MRX Carbon Copy and an Ibanez Mini-Analog Delay in the 35's loop - it sounded great. You should have similar experience with the loop in your MKv:25.

Chorus Pedal... in front or fx loop?

with my MV:35 I have done both - when I first got the amp it was my first amp w/a loop so I got all the cables necessary to do the 4-cord thing and it sounded fine - a chorus or trem or vibe or verb effect with the guitar - cool. Then I began to get tired of fussing with all the long cable runs...

Do you use the loop of your V 25 or 35?

When I first got my MV:35 it was my first amp with a loop (the other amps are Rambler and Vicky Double Deluxe). I've been just running everything through the front of the ampforever, but my effects needs are simple. For my MV:35 I just use a light OD for the clean ch, delay, chorus, trem and...

V25 great.. except for ‘edge of break up’ so what Mesa?

I've been using my VFE Blues King or my old Marshall orig. black-box Bluesbreaker (that the Blues King is a variant of) for edge of breakup that cleans up with a slight roll back of the guitar vol. with great results on either the clean of fat mode (depending on single coils or HB) on ch1. of my...

    Different Speakers with Mark V Heads - 25, 35 or 90w amps

I put a Celestion Neo Creamback in my MV:35 combo. I have also used a 27" wide Lonestar C90 1X12 as an extension cab with very good results. The more interesting was using my 96 Matchless EDS 2X12 wired for 8ohms as the extension cab - outdoor gig kinda deep stage, all the more easier to hear...
