    mark iv power tube choices

Do most of you mark players use all 6l6s or the el34/6l6 combo?

Cool, do you have any sound clips? Anyone else?

    mark iv power tube choices

Hey everyone- Lastnight I replaced the outer el34 tubes with the 6l6s. I have two JJ 6l6s, and two SED 6l6s. What a major difference this made in Rhy 1 and Rhy 2. Those channels sounded so much better with the all 6L6 power section, I was amazed... BUT... the lead channel sounded horrible...

    Road King Tubes...

I believe you are correct, but someone else chime in here just to be safe. Or check the manual.

    Question about Mesa Boogie Recto's?

I like the singles more also. But I also have done the 50w thing with my dual back before I sold it. It made a big improvement, but still didn't have a good clean channel in my opinion. You really don't need the triple recto. 150w is absolutely insane, and I can promise you, you will never...

    Road King Tubes...

You need a matching pair, so you need to buy a pair to replace the one tube that was broken, and replace the corresponding "partner" tube or whatever you want to call it. I don't think you have to replace all of them, just as long as each tube matches the other tube in its pair.

Mark IV 1x12 Combo, Tone Question

What do you have the bass setting dialed in at? From my experience, anything over 3 sounds farty or flubby. Dial it in between 2 and 3, and adjust the rest of the bass with you EQ.

    What Tube Brand?

No, JJs are current production, meaning they are being manufactured currently. NOS = new old stock. Tubes that were manufactured years ago, but haven't been used (or barely used). JJs are produced in the old Tesla factory. Again, JJ=current production where as Tesla= NOS (along with RCA, GE...

    What Tube Brand?

Mesa tubes aren't worth the money. They are just relabled tubes (you could buy the same tubes unlabled for about half the cost from another supplier). You will be happy with JJs and bob at eurotubes is a good guy. What do you mean by current models? If you mean current production, than yes...

    What Tube Brand?

Hey aaronl, and welcome. JJ's are a great tube if you are going to go with current production. I've tried several other brands, SED was also pretty decent. I find JJs tend to be slightly darker (at least the 6l6/el34 I received) but I liked how they sounded. Probably one of the more reliable...

Sorry, they aren't sovteks (i have no idea where i got that from  must of been a late night) but they are chinese made.

TUBE CARE -when is it better to turn off rather than standby

In my experience, a salesman will tell you anything to make a sale or to hear himself talk. This is especially true at GC. Listening to someone try and explain the difference between classA and classA/B was downright hilarious. When it comes to technical info, either call Mesa or comb through...

    TS808

For what its worth, I thought the TS808 was designed to push power tubes into overdrive, not distort the signal... I used a friends before, and I only used it on Rhy 1, and to beef up Rhy 2 slightly.

HELP! Lone Star 1x12:ringing/buzzing noise only on one note.

dothedo: No, I'm saying I don't know if you can switch pre-amp with the power on. I would call mesa before you try if it is not addressed in the manual. Depending on how many 12ax7s they gave you, I would just replace all of them.

New to the Board, soon to be new to Mesa...A Few Questions

I can answer questions 3 and 4 for you. 3. Mesa 6L6s are what come stock in the Dual rectifier. I believe they are sovteks (chinese made). The difference between the el34 and 6l6 is this: The 6l6 has more headroom (can get louder before the clean starts to become distorted) and is a...

HELP! Lone Star 1x12:ringing/buzzing noise only on one note.

If the noise comes out of the speaker on every channel, it could be a power tube or V1. If its just the 2nd channel, it would be the power tubes, V1, or V2. If its the 3rd, it could V1, V2, or V3 and the power tubes. I don't think the phase inverter would cause an audible problem as you have...

I unhooked my reverb leads! Oh-oh?

I had unhooked my reverb at one time or another, and couldn't remember what went where. I just plugged them both in, and when the reverb didn't work, I reversed them and it worked. I don't think it will damage them amp, but I'm not an expert. I'd say just do it really quickly and you won't...

HELP! Lone Star 1x12:ringing/buzzing noise only on one note.

If you still think it is a tube, they should all be 12ax7 types. Just pull a tube and check though, it will be written on there.
