I totally agree with that comment. When I practice my tone is...ehh...ok, but when I'm with the band or just rockin loud by myself, it sounds great!

I would say add a little more mids, and back off on the drive (what you called your second gain). Also, is the presense pulled or pushed in? Are both gains and drive pushed or pulled?

I don't know if I can get exactly Santana's tone, but I feel I can get pretty close.

While I've never tried a power brake, one widely practiced method of at least taming the volume of a tube amp while getting it to sound somewhat decent at lower levels is to turn each individual channel volume rather low, and adjusting the master volume to taste. This at least gets the power...

Timbre- The mullards are I63s. In all I got two mullards, a yugo (hot rod or something), rft, and a 7025 (don't know the brand but it looks old?)

Does anyone know the what specs the power tubes should fall into for a mark iv? I know someone with a tube tester, I just don't know what they should test too.

I asked mesa the same question and they said no. Run it in tweed mode and in class A. Class A runs only the outer two power tubes, so it is like pulling the inner two.

Well these are going in a mark iv which obviously has fixed bias. Is there a way to tell if they are too cold without using a tube tester?
