thanks guys. that's what I'm doing, I run a modded Boss SD-1 in front of the amp with the level dimed and the gain off (clean boost). It works great but I was hoping maybe I could get something more diretly from the amp. I may need to go check out the V when someone local to me has one.

my red stripe already had the R2 volume pot mod done to it when I got it, but does anyone know if there is a mod that can be done to give R2 it's own Gain pot? (and add some more gain to the channel)

I use a modded Boss SD-1 with my mark III and it sounds amazing. It's a chaos mod from Boden electronics. alot of guys over on the Sevenstring.org site have them and use them with their rectos too. (I got mine to use with my Rectoverb) the pedal is a great match for the Mesa voicing.

I agree, if you decide you want another you should be able to find one fairly easily (Although besides not having the reverb yours sounds like it's all set as far as options go). If the DC-5 is working for you that's great, those are killer amps too. I absolutely love my red stripe mark III but...

I would think an MXR 10 band in the loop wil get you plenty close enough. My Red Stripe has the on board EQ and I still use my MXR 10 band in the loop to "fine tune" it for different types of tones or set different sounds between R2 and lead. it's some of the best $90.00 you can spend gear wise...

If you want a 'rougher" sounding mark check out a mark III. I A/B my red stripe against my buddys MArk IV(A) and that's exactly what he heard. A more open "nastier sounding Mark.

I use them in the outer slots in my Mark III and I think they sound great. Smoother and thicker than the El34's but you still get the added mid punch of an EL34 type tube.
