strange thing happened to my mark IV tonight:freaked me out

I was just jamming out a little on it and all of a sudden all of the gain disappeared from the lead channel. I still had my volume but it was completely clean. I switched over to R1.....fine R2.................fine back to lead.........still clean. I turned it off and went upstairs. came back...

    Full Circle

I went from a III red stripe to a IV(A) myself. I had never heard a IVB that I liked as much as my III but a friend of mine scored an "A" combo in really good shape for cheap and he just couldn't get a long with it (true marshall guy to the bone) so I checked it out, and it sounded so close to...

    Roadster retube with Mesa el34s

you should try some KT-77's in there. give's you the best of a 6L6 and the best of an El34. I tried all 3 types in my Rectoverb adn by far, the KT-77s sounded best. glad you're digging it. I constantly have a debate in my head on whether or not to keep my Mark IV or move it and get a Roadster...

Me playing Poison was the Cure (solo) by Megadeth on Mark IV

killer cover as usual. I used to run my IV in A/pentode/Tweed all the time but I recently started running it in Simul/Full power and I think it sounds much crisper and sharper that way. both sound good just different.

mesa mark iv- 6l6's or el34's??

I ran my Mark III like this and loved it. I don't have any KT-77's on hand right now, but I did try some El34's in my mark IV and did not like it at all. It added a "boxy" sound to the tone, so I switched back to all 6L6's. I need to get a pair of Kt-77's and give them a try, I really liked them...

I play metal with my ROADSTER. EL34 or 6L6 tubes?

you could also try KT-77's as well. I had them in my Rectoverb and I absolutely loved them.

Would you swap a Mark IV for a Recto?

I have a Mark Iv and a 5150 II, I would do that before getting a another 2 channel recto (had a black face dual for a while) the only Recto I would go for these days is the Roadster. (which I seriously want). the 550 suggestion is a good one especially if you're primarily a rthythm player they...

    6505+ VS Tremoverb

ya, right now I'm on my 4th one  there is something about them I do like :P and I don't find the 5150 II mid scooped at all, just the opposite very mid heavy.

    6505+ VS Tremoverb

Awesome post thanks for taking the time to write it up !!! I guess I need to get my hands on a Tremoverb and give it a test drive.

    6505+ VS Tremoverb

Yes I 've already got a mark IV. I find myself hardly ever firing up the 5150 II anymore. vitors statement " I can do what a Roadster does on my TOV, but not the other way around. " is what I'm asking about here.

    6505+ VS Tremoverb

What does the TOV give that the Roadster doesn't? oh and thanks for all of the info in your post. I'm not much of a chugga chugga guy, I'm much more of a shredder (wannabe) I play a lot of lead but I do play some 7 string stuff (nevermore, Dream theater etc) so there is that to take into...

    6505+ VS Tremoverb

Besides a akick *** high gain lead channel (which the 6505+ does really well) is maybe some versatility? the clean on the "+" is definitely better thatn the straight 5150 but it still sucks compared to my mark IV or the Lonestar clean. I think the "roadster" may actually be the amp that I'm...

    6505+ VS Tremoverb

Hey guys, currently i have a 6505+ head and a mark IVA. I've been gasing to try a Tremoverb for quite a while and now I may have the opportunity to score one, but I'm wondering how much different the gain structure will sound compared to the 6505+? My Mark IV is not going anywhere I love that...

Which mark is your favourite? III , IV, V ?

I went from a III red Stripe to a IV"A" and couldn't be happier. If I didn't already own a IV I'd own a V. I tried one a while ago and really liked it, but since I just noodle at home these days I can't really justify dropping $2,000.00 on something I really don't need. I 'loved the III I had as...

    Mark IV Combo/Amp Attenuator

I use a THD Hotplate with my mark IV 100% of the time I use it. No problems so far ( this is going on for over a year now and it's an "A" version)

GTS made me a new cabinet for my Mark I

Looks really nice! George is going to get some of my money at some point. I want to convert my mark IVa combo into a head, I've just been to swamped lately to get around to it.

So I tried a Tung sol reisue 12ax7 in V1 in my c+

I had the same experianece in my mark IV, which really surprised me because in my recto it sounded great.

Is the mark Iv's distortion all pre amp based?

I'm wondering because I have a hotplate and a volume pedal, and I'm wondering if the volume pedal in the loop will work as well or better/worse than a hotplate will. I know the "mark IV' has a great master volume and sounds good at lower volumes yada yada yada, I find all tube amps sound...
