one of my rectifer tubes is slightly white only around the base what does that mean? it still lights up and its only right around the base of it ?

I just bought a new mesa dual rec and I cant get a good sound out of it?Iam very confused why does this amp have so much bass (I thought extreme amounts of bass in a guitar sound was always bad)?I play heavey music but **** this thing is insainly bassy,can anybody help me please? Dont tell me...
