    Mark IIB verification

If that's the case, it might be a Mark IIA, Which makes sense, cause it looks like it's got a 15" speaker. If it is, it's Rare amp, fewer than 250 made.

    Mark IIB verification

It appears to have had the effects loop mod done that might explain the extra control in the front. They would put the control in the reverb spot in non reverb amps. The other toggle might be simu-class selector. or possibly the 60 watt/100watt selector. Otherwise it does appear to be a Mark...

Broken Mark III knob - can you help diagnose a repair? +pics

That's definitely in need of a replacement pot. You can order the pot from Mesa. Installation could be tricky, if you've never worked on amps you may get the shock of a lifetime..... It sounds like you're rather inexperienced with tube amps so I would advise taking it to a tech. While he's...

Retubed my '86 Mark III Purple stripe -- tube differences

Your old EL34 Tubes are USA tubes, the old 6l6's probably are too. Most likely Sylvanias. They are what tone hounds look for. If it where me I'd keep them as they are hard to come by and expensive these days. The new tubes are from either China or Russia, the size of the bottle is not all that...

    Converting a combo to head?

It's an easy swap, just watch for a head cabinet on ebay. Make sure the inside dimensions are correct before bidding. They come cut for reverb or without the cut. Swapping the reverb is the most difficult part make sure you use rubber washers for isolation when mounting your reverb. If not...

Maybe somebody can help me - Mk IIC question.

The Intellifex allows you to mix the original analog signal with the digitally affected signal(Chorus, Delay, whatever). You still get the distortion tone you want and then you can blend in the amount of effect to suit your taste. Not perfect but way better than stomp boxes. They sell for...

Maybe somebody can help me - Mk IIC question.

Looks like a trip to Mesa for a Mod would do the trick....and you would have a Holy Grail C+ to boot. The Effects loop in my Mark IIB sucks too, an Intellifex LTD in the effects loop has been my salvation. I'm still saving to get back to Mesa for the loop mod, Someday......

    Mark IIB Question

First on the Reverb, Pull it up from the bottom of the amp and make sure it's loose sometimes they get stuck and start to whine about it. The buzzing could be a variety of issues as could the lack of distortion. This leads me to suggest taking it to the man himself Mike B. You say your close so...

Please identify this amp, is it a bargain?

It's looks like 1st edition Mark 1, What's the serial number???? You can get a Mark IIB for that kinda money. How much does a Reissue Mark one cost down under? This one looks like the real deal. Someone may consider that important. It's only worth what someone will pay for it, so low...

    Mark IIB to Mark IIC+?

I know there are a few that got the B to C+ mod in the 1980's. Very few. So yes it has been done. A mod in 2004 may have been the effects loop mod. Some say this leans the IIB more towards the C+ lead tone. But as far as a flat out IIB to IIC+ change, they ran out of parts to do that years...

What to backup Mark IIB during gig?

I've watched my buddies Mark IIB head get knocked of a 4X12 cabinet and bite a wood floor, broke 2 knobs off and still worked and sounded great. They are really rugged. It's not a bad idea to have spare tubes with any tube amp when touring. I've been using the TAD 6l6GC STR in my Mark IIB and...

    splitting a combo

Shouldn't be a problem. It'll definitely look sweet. I think Mesa will build you one, or there are several others that build custom cabinets on the web, but it sounds like you have someone to build it close to you. That would be my first choice. Inside dimesions on my head are 7"H X 17 1/8W X...

Mesa Upgrade for Mark IIB Effects Loop

Here's some info that will let you know if the mods been done or not. Quote: The IIB however had well known "issues" with this effects loop. It tended to overdrive effects when switching into lead mode, and the reverb level in lead mode was markedly decreased. Mike B. and Randy came up with a...

Anyone using Ayan "Smooth-n-Slim" to reduce flub,

If you know of anyone with a EARCANDY 1x12 or 2x12 cabinet try it out. These cabinets obtain a tight puchy, yet fat bottom end. I have been amazed by my Sov 1x12, know matter how hard I push the bottom end it stays tight. Lot's cheaper than a new amp too :)

Mesa Upgrade for Mark IIB Effects Loop

Mike B is the one that does the mod. You make the money order out to him not to Mesa Boogie. So I doubt if you can get it done anywhere other than Mesa home office.

    Thiele Cabinet plans

I think this is what you need. http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Builders%20Plans/TL806%20Builders%20Plans.pdf The Theile cabinets are great but it's been my experience that the Earcandy Sovereign 1x12 is the best sounding cabinet of all I have tried. They really kick it up a notch...

    Rocktman Octopus with MKIV ?

I use one with my Mark IIB and it works great, channel switching, reverb on and of and Eq on and off. And does all of the channel switching on another amp also at the same time. Awesome piece of equipment. Should work great on your amp.

Pedalboard or modeler with Mesa Mark IIB?

Bring your amp along when you shop for your pedal. Just keep plugging different pedals in until you find the right one or combination of pedals. Tone is an individual thing, so you have now started your Quest :) If I want to speak to the Unchained Heavy Metal Lords I put my old Peavey...
