Just got Mark V + 2x12 Recto Vertical Slanted

Have the same setup. Perfect for gigging. Amazing sound once the speakers get broken in. Congrats!

What's your favourite Ibanez guitar for metal?

Mostly been using my RG920QMZ with a Bareknuckle Holydiver in the bridge and Emerald in the neck. However, last year I picked up an old, electric blue RG470 with and amazing neck. I'm in the process of putting ceramic BKP Blawkhawks and a Cobra middle coil, and replacing the worn out, crap...

The bold/thick/bright switches... do they do anything?!

I agree with the above, but you're likely going to have a difficult time hearing it through headphones. You really need to be pushing air through a cab. The bright on channel three adds a noticable bite, almost like the high-mids switch on a Suhr Koko booster. Great palm-muted riffing. The...

What effects do you use and what it does for you.

I've used a ton of great pedals in the past, but since getting the Mark V most have been cut out. I like that. I still use: Morley/Vai's Bad Horsie 2 Wah - awesome for high gain lead playing, and the ability to set a second wah boost/contour is a nice bonus for adjusting to a better clean...

    Not exactly my proudest moment....

Reminds me of a recent embarrassing moment during which I'd set my rig up for a soundcheck, exactly the way I've always done it, but could get absolutely zero signal to the house. I was even getting signal on the Two Notes Torpedo Live input meter from the amp/board, so I knew I was good there...

    RA-100 w/ Suhr guitar - live video - thoughts?

Hey man, thanks for posting these. Not only do you guys sound tight, but I'm looking at getting a Suhr modern here soon, and wanted a good example of what it might sound like in a mix. I'll be using a MkV head, and swamp ash/maple instead of the GG's mahogany, but I'm sure they both sing. Does...

Mesa tubes or others? Full re-tube, what to buy?

Besides needing some volume to open up, do you ever play live? I've found that the same tones I wouldn't really like at home just really sound great in a live mix. It's the pronounced midrange.

Need some help from MKV owners

I find that the best way to get saturation on the MkV is to boost ch2/3 with a dimed Tubescreamer or something like the Suhr a Koko boost. That's kind of standard for most tube amps, although it helps the Mark a little more, as folk have mentioned it can feel like a dry/stiff amp. Using the...

Need Settings for Country Rock - Edge Mode????

I've played that style on occasion. Tbh, the best country rock sound I've gotten has been by using the mkIIC mode and 6L6s with the gain dialed back to about 1000/1030. Kick on a tubescreamer for leads.

Need some help from MKV owners

Why would you be surprised? The manual even talks about tube squeal if the gain and treble are pushed to high together, so why be surprised if you're using the settings you gave?

    Mark V Question

Should be fine then, man. I've had that happen a few times when I'm spacing out tuning or intonating before playing, and it never hurts anything. Just confuses the midi switcher is all.

    it came with el34s

New, they should've come with 6l6s, but 34s are better, imo. The drive is crunchier, warmer, and less grainy. The cleans are beautiful with the 6s, but I just can't handle the fizz that comes with them on channel 3 especially. The cleans aren't bad with the 34s, so I stick with them because the...

    Mark V Question

It's normal, but I don't think you selected a channel for some time. It will only do that if you've let it sit lit and unselected for a long time, like ten minutes or so. If it clicks immediately, it's because you didn't properly seat the midi cable, but then just selecting a channel won't...

nuff gain on the big daddy V? full V users only plz, need ad

You're probably right, and I probably said that because I don't play metal rhythm

Help please! Mark IV static sound on low E string.

Yeah man, not sure, but I have the same problem if I'm playing loud on the clean fat mode with the bass too high. I can't tell if it's only with the reverb on or not, but it seems to me like I'm pushing a tube to breakup somewhere with that low freq, but not a pleasant breakup. Almost like a...

nuff gain on the big daddy V? full V users only plz, need ad

I think they're probably just looking for some shitty recto tones that you're not going to find in the V. For lead playing, it's the best amp I've ever played. On channel 3, I use the MkIIC and MkIV modes exclusively. Haven't really found a reason to like the extreme mode. I use the MkIIC...

    Mark V 25

Which is exactly why I'd only stick with my full MkV :D Searched too long for a great three channel amp to go back to those sorts of headaches.

    1st Mesa amp / Mark V / Some remarks

Great amp for sure. You'll notice the diff between 45/90w and between tube/diode at higher volumes. 90w has more authority and a singing quality from the simulclass power section. Diode rectification def presents a harder edged/harsher distorted tone.
