Or you could sell the house and buy a Fuchs Tripledrive Supreme... :D

    JJ Lonestar Special EL84s good

Played engineer with the JJ 12AX7s again today, and none of the combinations worked for me - I think I'll stick with the stock Mesa's in the preamp and JJ EL84s in the power amp. I'm very happy with the tone on both channels with this setup. Also discovered putting a compressor before the amp...

    JJ Lonestar Special EL84s good

This from Speedy McFeely: "I use NOS (new old stock) RCA 5751 tubes in V1 and V2. The 5751 is essentially a quiet heavy duty 12ax7. I use jj 12ax7s and a NOS GE 12at7 in the reverb driver socket. The 12at7 is a lower gain/ higher output preamp tube that is less noisy and harsh than a 12ax7, and...

    JJ Lonestar Special EL84s good

Exactly - so do you use stock Mesa preamp tubes?

    JJ Lonestar Special EL84s good

I ordered a complete JJ retube (except the Rectifier) a while ago, and on first installation didn't like the sound compared to stock Mesa tubes. Before junking them, thought I'd try just switching the power amp tubes over today, and now understand what all the fuss is about. Overdrive smoother...

More issues with LSS Ch 2

Bummer - did you try the last settings I settled on? Maybe its the combination of active Seymour Duncans and the piezo, although just the magnetic pickups sound amazing too. The compressor in the loop (just bog standard POD XT compressor) really seems to help - more sustain without grit. The...

    LSS and (Ibanez)TS

To get great overdrive with the LSS you don't need a TS - I just sold my Homebrew Powerscreamer as it doesn't beat lots of tweaking with the LSS. That said, I can recommend a compressor in the effects loop for a bit more sustain. One pedal worth considering is the Hermida Audio Zendrive - if...

    LSS JJ Tubes for Sale

Have a full, brand new, LSS retube set of matched quad of JJ EL84s and 4 ECC83Ss (the fifth ECC83S got broken removing it - oops) - tried them, but preferred the Mesa originals. Others here love them. New cost from Eurotubes for full set is $74 exlcuding postage. Will sell mine for $50 +...

Sometimes we all need to mic... Suggestions?

Check out Sequis Motherload - different beast, but far more versatile both live and recording (and sounds amazing). http://www.motherload.co.uk/

Another Eurotubes / JJ's / LSS Success Story!

Just ordered a standard gain set of JJs on the strength of this post - will report back when they're in.

    What multi-effects with an LSS?

Currently use Pod XT in the effects loop - which sounds pretty good to me. Only other effect is a Teese RMC3 wah (and occasionally a Lovetone Meatball) in front of the amp. There are so many other multi-effects units out there - anybody have any experience with anything else which is worth...

    is the LSC "dumblesque"?

Hermida zendrive pedal will get you close to the Dumble overdrive sound, if that is what you are looking for - and less than $200!

    LSS and General Questions

The drive channel is the most challenging, but there are many threads on different people's experience with it. You need to do a lot of tweaking to get it right, but when you do it sounds amazing. If you haven't done so already, do a search on LSS, Lonestar Special etc on the board and read...

Anyone else having trouble with low mids on LSC

On the LSS I use low drive, then use every control pre-presence as descending gain stages. So dial treble in as your highest control and then everything else lower down to bass at the lowest setting - clears things right up and you can then dial in whatever mid you need. They have the same...

Smooth, singing, clear LSS lead sound?

And now have managed to get the same sound recorded using a Sequis Motherload - so silent recording and sounds the same as through the cab! Very, very, very cool.

Smooth, singing, clear LSS lead sound?

Have finally figured it out - for touch sensitive, singing overdrive at 30 watts using the 8 ohm out and normal setting, set the drive low around 10.30 and then used every control pre-presence as decreasing gain stages. So say Gain at 3, treble at 1.30, mid at noon, bass at 10.30. Then presence...

Smooth, singing, clear LSS lead sound?

Have tried monkeying about following your advice, and this seems better. Drive 10.30 Drive setting Thick Gain 1.30 Treble 1 Mid 1.30 Bass 10.30 Presence 9 Master 10.30 30 Watt setting Reverb Warm set to 9.30 plus a POD XT basic compressor in front of the amp Neck humbucker tone full...

Smooth, singing, clear LSS lead sound?

Fuchs amps not sold here in UK, and also v. expensive. Besides, I really like the Lonestar Special I just bought! Just want to get the most out of the lead tone... Will give the zendrive a try - thank you for the suggestion. Tried the Classic, but preferred the sound of the special for clean...

Smooth, singing, clear LSS lead sound?

Tried backing off on the guitar volume with tone rolled down to half - seems to help a bit on the smoothness and clarity front.
