    Jimi Hendrix wah tone

Also one more thing.....if using a OD pedal, make sure you place the Wah before the OD, that's what he did as well.

    Jimi Hendrix wah tone

I have several books at home (@ work at the moment) on this subject. I'll look it up when I get home (pretty sure it was a Vox). Anyway Dunlop does make the JH-1 Jimi Hendrix Signature which is SUPPOSED to have the original 1960s design to sound like Hendrix. Its circuitry is nearly identical...

Non Metal Mark IV users?? Are there any?

I mostly play classic rock (Hendrix, Cream, Jeff Beck, Zep) with some Sabbath, plus originals (and some blues). I usually run 6L6/EL34 combo. Depending on which guitar I use, it can be class A or SimulClass, pentode or triode, tweed or full power. Extremely versatile amp. Can't go wrong with...

The End of Svetlana Winged C

I understand. Sound is very subjective so it's hard to quantify. I know that I was happy with a mixed quad of Tung-Sols (6L6/EL34). I still have a couple of quads left of the SED =C= & the Tung-Sol will be what I go to after that. Just my 2 cents.

    Considering some alternate 12ax7 tubes...

    This is what I've been using (Mark IV(a)) and have been happy with: V1 - Tung-Sol (RI) V2 - JJ V3 - JJ V4 - Stock Mesa V5 - Mullard (RI)

Looking to join the Mark family & need advice

+1, I also have owned a MarkIV for over 20 years. Everything here also makes sense. Can't argue with this logic

    Mark IV buying advice

My Mark IV is over 20 years old. I've always took care of it. The only problem I've ever had, was a few years ago the low voltage regualtor went (most likely from a bad tube or power surge). I brought it to an authorized repair shop, they did a great job. The tech also tested the caps and...

    Mixing 6l6 and El34

There's no problem mixing them if the amp is set for that and you keep them paired appropriatly. My Mark IV can do that, but the 6L6s must be the inner pair and the EL34 the outer. You should never put one 6L6 with an EL34, if that's your question.

    Fender Dual Showman Reverb

Does Fender still make these? I always wanted one, they were basically Twin Reverb in just an amp head.

    Pennsylvania is Freakin Cold!!!!

Cold in NY as well. Mid teens yesterday and so far today. When I left my house yesterday morning for work, the car read zero. Crazy thing is in Alaska yesterday, it was 62.

Mesa boogie mark iv or mark v advice

I wouldn't necessarily say the Mark IV's cleans and R2 are useless. The R2 on the V is much tighter and more gain than the IV. However with a Les Paul and the R2 presence pulled with the gain on 10 pulled, you can get a good Marshall crunch sound for rhythm playing. Not so much for lead...

Suitable alternat for SED wing = c= ?

Bandit - I probably should have mentioned what type of Mark IV I had, my error. You are correct it is an 'A' revision, long head running through 4x12 with Black Shadows.

Suitable alternat for SED wing = c= ?

I thought I’d post my findings on the new production Tung-Sols as compared to the SED =C=, as possible future replacements. The EL-34 isn’t as bright or has as much definition as the =C=, but I wouldn’t say it was a dark sounding tube either. However, there’s a lot of that EL34 crunch. A...

Suitable alternat for SED wing = c= ?

Thanks. That's interesting. From Tube Depot I always get 6L6's rated around 21 and EL34's around 28 (regardless of brand - for my Mark IV). My last batch (and most likely my very last batch) of =C= were 20 & 43 respectively. They told me that the 43's were the closest to middle rated they...

Mesa boogie mark iv or mark v advice

+1 +1 +1 The Mark IV has a gain (pull fat) AND a drive (pull bright), the Mark V only has a gain. I believe I read somewhere (I could be wrong) the V was voiced with the drive permanently set with the drive at 7.5 pulled. That alone gives you more flexibility on the IV. Also the presence...

Suitable alternat for SED wing = c= ?

bandit - when you get your =C= from the tube store, can you post the bias points they gave you? Based on the ones I got from tube depot, I can tell they are running low. Thanks.

Suitable alternat for SED wing = c= ?

I believe they (EL34) are a couple of dollars cheaper at tube depot ($89.95 per pair), FWIW.

Suitable alternat for SED wing = c= ?

Yep... I got the same EXACT email from a distributor this morning. Sad. I bought my last quad in early November. At the current prices now, out of my range. I just picked up a mixed quad(6L6/EL34) of new production Tung-Sols as future replacements when the time comes. I wish I knew why they...
