    EL-34 Tube Shootout

These will be hard to find now, best bet on secondary markets like ebay. They stopped producing a few years back. I just stocked up and horded for myself. I'm very selfish that way. I would look into the other 2 mentioned. They are easier to find and both are good. The str-450's...

les paul studio vs american fat strat

I'm not big on the new Gibson's today. Feel like the quality is way down. I always compare them to my '81s and they can't compete in either sound and feel. Go with a Fender with the Tim Shaw pick up in the bridge position. The standard is around $1200, the deluxe is a few hundred dollars...

Too many tube options mark iv....

This is what I've been using (Mark IV(a)) and have been happy with: V1 - Tung-Sol (RI) V2 - JJ V3 - JJ V4 - Stock Mesa V5 - Mullard (RI) For Power tubes either all 6L6 or 6L6/EL34 combo SED =C=. When my supply runs out, Tung-Sol.

NGD Fender 10 for 15 Strat

Just got (a few weeks early) the new Fender 10 for 15 Mahogany strat. It has the Tim Shaw humbucker, S1 switching system, bypass switch for the humbucker, N3 noiseless single coils. So many sounds. With the S1 it'll run the grouping of the pickups in series opposed to parallel. I put a...

Current production STR 440 tubes opinions?

Try the new production Tung-Sols for 6L6's they are pretty good. I started testing those out for when my supply of SED =C= runs out.

    Fender Dual Showman Reverb

Thanks for all the info. I completely forgot about the Twin II. I'll keep my eyes open.

    IV v.s. III

+1, plus the versatility from the independent channels.

    fender 10 for 15 guitars

Thanks for the info. I recently tried the American Deluxe with the new Shawbucker pickups with the S-1 system. The guitar played and sounded great, better than I expected. I have 2 strats now both SSS, never liked HSS, until I tried this one. I put a small deposit on that 10 for 15 Mahogany...

    fender 10 for 15 guitars

Anyone look at these? Fender is releasing only 500 of each model, one a month. The prices are very reasonable considering. The Mahogany strat looks really nice. Also has anyone any experience with the S-1 switching system?

    Mixing 6l6 and El34

I agree nothing can replace those SEDs. I guess the operative word is "suitable". lol. I like and can live with the TungSols (both EL34 & 6L6) in my Mark IV, but they are no =C=.

    Mixing 6l6 and El34

I like them too. I found them to be a suitable replacement for my SED =C=,when I run out
  15. swbo101

    EL34 vs 6L6

I've explored these, now that SED has stopped producing tubes and I really like them. I have a pair in my closet for when I run out of my =C= EL34s.

    Mixing 6l6 and El34

Never really thought about it, but you're right. When using a mixed quad in my Mark IV, the tonal qualities of the EL34 tend to take over more than the 6L6 in Simul-Class mode
  17. swbo101

    Mark IV

+1 Plus that lead channel is so tight without the use of any pedals

    "Mint"

I believe the term "mint" comes from the "minting" production of money/coins. A fresh newly "minted"/struck coin is in perfect condition. I know your angry, not trying to incite you.

    Boogie Tube Specs

If you buy from a reputable tube dealer (i.e. tubedepot.com), just tell them you need a middle rated tube and let them know it's for a boogie. Also if you search enough on this forum, this topic has been discussed more times than I can count. I'm sure you'll find your answer. If I have the...
