    MK III purple stripe combo

Nope, I never really thought it needed it. Kinda thinking about having it done to my blue stripe, someday. Maybe.

    MK III purple stripe combo

I recently had a chance to buy the Purple stripe head I demoed previously and sent it back to Mike B for an overhaul and the R2 mod. The amp - a 60 watt head with no reverb or graphic eq - is almost certainly one of my favorite amps now. The settings I have it on are typical (volume way up...

    Tweed and Edge Mode Discovery

I love this. I'll definitely try some of these out.

The one tone I can’t seem to get

I wouldn't be surprised if you benefited from using a clean boost out in front of the amp, and I don't think that's much of a sin. It may help with both the blues tone you want from channel 1 as well as spruce up your gain in crunch mode. I use them frequently and think they help a lot. Also...

Mark III blue stripe vs Mark IV??

Mike B is better than we deserve, man. What a great story.

    Mark III blue stripe question

Short answer: it sounds like it's less aggressive. Longer answer: The IIC+ mode, applied to the III, is called the III+ mod, and several people here have gotten it and said it was an improvement. It does make it somewhat less aggressive, but it's important to understand what that actually...

Comparing Mark IV Mode to a IIC+

I have never owned a Mark IV. Having said that, I think that you can expect Mark IV mode to sound a lot like a IIC+ that has a graphic eq and PULL DEEP engaged. Especially if you switch it ever to Triode mode. I'm not aware of how much the preamp's lead channel evolved from IIC+ to the IV...

    The Mark V in general.

I love this! Great stories, too.

    Tweed and Edge Mode Discovery

The sample set of ten watt settings in the manual on page 7 sound good (Tweed, Edge, and Extreme modes) but Tweed and Edge really break up nicely on variac power. I came back to them after turning on full power and initially thought "where did the gain go?". Switched back to variac and they...

Mark III blue stripe vs Mark IV??

    yes. and yes :)

Mark III blue stripe vs Mark IV??

Yeah, it is super bright. I think it was an attempt to get as aggressive a sound as possible on models without an eq. If you're using the eq with a blue stripe, definitely keep the presence control at 2 or lower and it is fine, in my experience. It's a good amp, but honestly - they all are.

Love my red stripe Mesa Mark III...GAS'n for a Mark IIc+. Am I really missing a lot?

For some extra money, you can get the ++ made so that you can toggle it on and off. Mike B took mine and modded it so that PULL DEEP engaged ++ mode, and then modded the Mid knob to take over PULL DEEP control. I think that doing so was a bit of an imposition for him, but I was willing to pay...

    IIC+ mode tip

Signed off and played some more and oh my god, this is just fantastic. So brutal.

    IIC+ mode tip

If you are struggling with IIC+ mode, make sure your cabinet is on the floor. This is covered in the manual but it's easy to miss and it makes an enormous difference in how big your amp sounds in the room. From the manual: helpful hint #19 IMO, if your cab is on wheels, IV mode is better. But...

Love my red stripe Mesa Mark III...GAS'n for a Mark IIc+. Am I really missing a lot?

If you A/B these amps you will lose your mind, because they do not sound the same. Petrucci noted that even the IIC+'s had differences between them, depending on the options (power section, eq, etc), and Doug West noted in the Mark V manual that he was haunted for a long time trying to figure...

    MK III purple stripe combo

Hi there, I did a purple stripe review and a couple of videos a few years ago. It's a really sweet amp. The one I was looking at didn't have an eq and was still superb. I'm flying at the moment, so youtube isn't coming up, but here's one demo that I did and some of the other ones I did should...

    Triple crown 100 vs Roadster!?

I totally agree with this. The one thing I'll say about the Roadster: it offers a huge array of modes. The TC-50 is more targeted, but the voicings it has are really good.

    TC-100 vs Rectifier - Questions

Well, if we're doing late responses here, I'm happy to throw in my two cents worth. I own a MWDR, a TC-50, and a bunch of Marks. Regarding thump: for the Mark V, you need the speaker cabinet on the floor if you are in IIC+ mode, or you need to have it in Mark IV mode with a decent amount of...
