Mark iv as a power amp for recto pre?

I cannot answer how it works for that particular preamp, but I have used mine as a power amp (via the effects return jack) for several other preamps that I have. It works very nicely. The presence controls are active on mine. So it is an added feature of being able to get several tonal...

    NAD Mark IIb

All I did was a copy-and-paste from their web site. To be honest, all I paid attention to was their comment that the only time you could safely mix EL34s and 6L6s was it the amp was simulclass. I didn't even catch their comment about the middle sockets. I run EL34s in the outer sockets of my...

    NAD Mark IIb

That is a good question. I went to the Eurotubes website and found the following (I added the highlighting): The Mark II series amps from the original Mark II thru the Mark II C plus vary widely. If we were to list all of the variations and possibilities there would be in excess of 300 kits...

    NAD Mark IIb

I have never heard of using EL-34s for all 4 power tubes in an older Mark. I know you can go with 4 6L6s, and (with some restrictions) you can use 4 6v6s in a Mark IV. But I don't think you can use 4 EL34s. Hope this helps.

    Identify Mark IV

Don't know what the criteria is for having them or not. Both my Mark IV and my Nomad have them.

On the top amp, are the outside tubes EL84s held in with yellow-jackets?

nomad 55 clean channel. not really clean?

I find that the cleanest tones for channel 1 on my Nomad (a 45 1x12 combo) are when the gain is set below noon, and the channel volume is use to give some volume. Once I start putting the channel gain above noon, it start making a difference in the channel's clarity. Not sure if this helps you...

IIC+ mod on a nStudio Preamp: is it worth the trouble?

For what it's worth, we are reading your thread. I simply have no experience with the Studio Preamp. Sorry.

Is my Mark IV a A or B revision??

+1 on down loading the manual from Mesa's site. Their amp manuals are some of the best that I have ever seen. Lots of good hints in there. Lots of good scoop on how the controls interact. It's the type of manual that you need to read through several times before everything can soak in. I...

Is my Mark IV a A or B revision??

When you say that the tone controls are touchy, how touchy do you mean? Do you mean, for example, that change the treble from 7 to 7.25 makes a big tonal difference? For what it's worth, my Mark IV is not nearly that sensitive - except on the master volume. That is one of the touchiest MVs I...

Anyone tweaked the Nomad 100 watt Channel One?

Don't have a 100, I have a 45 1x12. My channel 1 is decent. It sounds better with my SG than it does my LP, but my guitars are like that. The Nomad preamp is unique in the sense that v1 uses both sides of the preamp tube as parallel input. I put a TAD 12ax7 in the v1 slot and the cleans became a...

These are a few of my favorite cleans

Nice. I can't speak to the cleans of the Dual (never owned one). I've had a bug for a while to try out an LSS. However, our (semi)local Mesa dealer never seems to have one. I've owned several other Mesas in my life, and the best one's cleans I like is the one I currently have - the Mark IV. My...

Anyone think a Stiletto Ace can't do JCM 800? (With clips)

I have always had my eye on the Stiletto. The only issue I have had is that it sounds good only when cranked. I know in the OP's clip it is cranked - and it sounds very, very nice. How does the Stiletto sound at much lower volumes (i.e., practice volumes)? I know my Mark IV sounds wonderful...

    Mark IV tubes question

This is how I have mine configured too. Sounds good, and, gives me the option that I can switch to "class A" and use EL34s only.

    Steve "The Colonel" Cropper

Wow! Very, very interesting. Steve sounds like a regular guy, one who loves to play and talk gear. Most impressive. I would be very interested to hear any updates on this. It would be cool (for you) to find out it was the same amp.

Standback on Mark IV Widebody Combo

Mine folds more in a tube shape than a flat shape. It is too long to fit in my Mark IV (a B-series). I don't know how much wider a wide-body Mark IV is.

Standback on Mark IV Widebody Combo

This is the sort of stand that I use. It's a tripod. It keeps the amp off of, but close to the floor. It works well and doesn't block total access to the back of the amp. https://on-stage.com/products/view/11181/117060 (I tried to cut-and-paste the picture, but it would not let me). I got...

Too many tube options mark iv....

I cannot help you from the metal aspect. My IV is very quiet on all channels. On the clean channel, I hear nothing underneath the tone. One quick thing to try is to swap the V1 preamp tube with another (V2 or V3) and see if the distortion goes away. If it does, you have determined it to be a...
