Mark IIb loop mod users- help dialing in, please?

Something fishy is going on... I set my EQ to how I usually do for my favorite lead tone out of my IIc+ HR. I plugged that EQ into the loop of the IIb, but sent it to the return of my IIc+ DRX. It sounded great! Like a IIc+ JR! Could it have just been that I needed to use my tried & true MXR...

Mark IIb loop mod users- help dialing in, please?

I just got my IIb S "Super Sixty" back from Boogie (SN 88XX), with a loop mod & service. I hate to say it- I'm quite a bit disappointed. It really does not sound anything like either of my IIc+'s. The two biggest differences are a nasally-mid honk that I can't dial out (even with EQ in the...

This is being advertised on CL as an Original MK I

The number you want (the serial number) is right below the word "speakers" It's stamped and can be hard to see unless up close with good lighting

    IIC+ tones

Sounds awesome. I have also discovered that a Suhr through a IIC+ Simul is the most unbelievable sound in the world. Love the no-inlay fingerboard on yours! Great to hear some non-scooped Boogie IIC+ action!

IIC+ Simul-class "brightness reduction mod" - worth it?

My IIC+ DRX is my favorite amp ever. It is notable that I keep the presence knob perpetually parked at "0" Does the mod change the character/frequency response of the presence knob? Or does it just make the amp less bright, so I will turn the presence to 2.5 (like my IIC+ HR) and get the same...

Looks like a IIC. Others can confirm.

Mark IV mod to get closer to III?

Have you ever considered getting a Mark III and doing the "+" mod? From samples posted, it seems to have more smoothness than a stock Mark III (and slightly more compression), but more rawness/aggressiveness/openness than a Mark IV. Perhaps III+ owners could talk more about it.

    Solid state power amps?

I used to use a IIb to power the StudPre. It's basically the same power amp as a IIC+. IMO, a 60 watt IIb with a couple of Sylvania STR-415's (or if you can't get ahold of them, some SED Winged C's STR 454 are a close 2nd) is one of the sweetest tones there is. Plus, having a IIb would be nice-...

Flight case for Mark II head

UPS must obviously not give a %$# about anything in a flight case. It appears they dropped my woodline Mark IIC+ combo off of a truck (how else do you crack the corner dovetail joint?). Mesa told me that the wooden cabinet is a loss and needs to be replaced. Lets see if UPS gives me the $ to...

Mesa Mark IIC+ (2 channel testing)

I love your tone. Many people don't realize that the IIC+ is not inherently as scooped (even with a "deep V") as we hear on MOP/AJFA (a lot of that is EQ'ing happening beyond the onboard Mesa 5-band). That being said, you really found a sweet spot. Your tone makes me nostalgic for some of my...

IIC+ DRX arrived today... comedy of errors...

It came from Europe, in nothing but a flight case with the shipping label taped on. Here's what I found when I opened it: Please send me positive vibes so that UPS will sponsor a brand new cabinet from Boogie! And then there was the export voltage switch, which, for whatever reason, had...

Favorite Mark IIc+ for sweet, singing, saturated (single-note) lead tone?

I can attest to that. I run my IIc+ HR stereo through the power section of a IIb S (60 watt) with a pair of Sylvania STR-415's. My IIc+ has a quad of Svetlana SED Winged C STR 454's. Both of these sound unreal—mouth-watering. Other tubes just aren't the same.

QUAD PRE CH 1&2 VS MARK 2C+/++ VS STUDIO PRE C++

I had a feeling it was the recording that resulted in the sound quality. Too bad- would love to know how they really sound in the room.

QUAD PRE CH 1&2 VS MARK 2C+/++ VS STUDIO PRE C++

Honestly, I would take some time to dial in a much richer tone. At least, the way you recorded it, everything is coming across as fizzy and almost like the cabinet is lying on bed facing down. Based on the settings I see, a lot may have to do with you GEQ setting, and I'd also avoid having the...

Favorite Mark IIc+ for sweet, singing, saturated (single-note) lead tone?

I just got ahold of a IIc+ HR with the 100 PT. After comparing the lead tones to a Mark III red stripe DRG, a IIb S, a IIb DRGX, and a Studio Preamp (through all of the above power amps), I am blown away. I have never played an amp that sings like this, and that can have so much variation in...

Is there any reason a rack EQ couldn't produce near identical results as the onboard EQ?

Thank you for the thorough response! What I'm mostly hoping is that I can achieve some tone-sculpting, while still getting just as "pure" a signal going into the power amp section (as compared to an on-board EQ). I understand it may be slightly different- that doesn't bother me. Luckily, I'm...

Quad mods—what’s been on Mike B.’s menu?

I have heard that the "++" mod can be done to the Studio Preamp, so I'd assume it could be done to channel 1 of the Quad. Short of that, I think there is a "c+" mod that can be done to channel 1 of the Quad (it can and has been done to the Studio Preamp- several members here have it). I believe...

Help- Studio Preamp suddenly not working... suspicious wire...

Thanks- I switched all the tubes, tried a different amp's loop return for the power section, tried all the outputs- they all behave the same way. I guess I'll just take it to a Mesa service center.

Help- Studio Preamp suddenly not working... suspicious wire...

I hadn't used the StudPre in a couple of days (IIC+ arrived! 8) ), so I was puzzled when I was plugging it in, and it was needing the master to be pushed past 3-4 on the Mark II power amp, only to hair a faint, fizzy sound. I opened it up, and here's what I found - (I think the reverb is...

Is there any reason a rack EQ couldn't produce near identical results as the onboard EQ?

Not trying to start an argument; would actually just prefer if some would offer insight purely from a standpoint of understanding circuits/electronics. I understand that the onboard EQ is on 40v rails (whatever that means), as opposed to a 9v pedal- is that correct? Therefore, the pedal is...
