will NOS Philips 6L6GWB's hold up in a Mark II?

Looking to just put them in the class a/b sockets, not in the class a (simul-class) sockets. :?:

    IIc+ (RP10/SP10) vs. IIb (RP9C/SP9C)

It's fascinating. IME, the only consistency (and that's only based on 2 examples: a IIb DRGX and a IIC+ DRX) I've found is that the export simul's seem to have tons of gain. I'm counting my lucky stars, because my IIb DRGX (with the RP-9C) actually has as much or more liquidy-ness than both of...

Should I convert my HR IIc+ to DR?

I'd say it turned fantastically: 1. I liked it better after the simul-class conversion. I just happened to still like my DRX better, and I realized I don't need 2 Mark IIC+'s. That's why I sold it. 2. the sale covered all of the service + mod'ing costs.

    IIc+ (RP10/SP10) vs. IIb (RP9C/SP9C)

I'm curious to get more information on these two preamp circuits: how they are similar, and where they differ. I'm moving this from another thread I started: I re-aquired the Mark IIb DRGX that I sold last summer. It has the RP9C preamp board. n.b. - I stopped playing guitar for 17-ish years...

Pedal in Mark IIb loop for IIC+ -like liquidness?

I moved my follow-up to another thread: http://www.grailtone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=86184

Pedal in Mark IIb loop for IIC+ -like liquidness?

EDIT: I've found I actually don't need to use a pedal to achieve what I wanted. There is an update to all of this in the thread I linked below. I'm wondering if anyone has a go-to pedal they put in their IIb (or in front; whatever works better) to just slightly push the IIb's lead sound into...

Should I convert my HR IIc+ to DR?

    According to who?

Should I convert my HR IIc+ to DR?

Very interesting, it seems to still have a tighter bass sound than the DRX. Non-EQ, but still tight rhythm is possible with nothing in the loop. Nails MOP tone with an MXR 10-band EQ in the loop. I don't really play this type of music, but it is fun to play those riffs! Lead tone is different...

    Mark V as IIc+ substitute?

I really appreciate this response. A lot of good stuff. I've come to the point of thinking that I don't need a IIC+ backup. What you described is accurate: the simul-class is slightly more compressed than 100/60w, but compared to most subsequent Marks (except perhaps the III and the V on "IIC+"...

    Mark V as IIc+ substitute?

If I'm really into the IIc+ simul-class sound, will I be able to work with a Mark V 35, or do I need the 90 watt? Practically, 90 watts would be overkill for me, but it seems to be the only simul-class option. Can the V 35 produce comparable tones? To clarify: I use 6L6's and EL34's together...

Are there any IIc+ "D" or "DX" (simul, no reverb, no EQ) out there?

Accidently posted this in the wrong forum, just reposted here... I have heard some say that non-reverb versions sound the most organic, and I know that I prefer the non-EQ versions. I also know I prefer simul-class. Are there many out there that fit this description? I've never seen one. I...

Should I convert my HR IIc+ to DR?

Also, my DRX has the crazy brightness that they started doing with later IIc+ simul's, and the HR -> DR would not have that. I want to eventually have that brightness reduction mod done to my DRX, so it'd be nice to have one right away with less brightness!

Should I convert my HR IIc+ to DR?

I did consider this (for variety), but every time I played the HR, I just missed the DRX. The HR is indeed a sort of "backup" I think I'll go through with it! Curious if I'll hear much difference from the 100PT to the export

Should I convert my HR IIc+ to DR?

Talk me out of it before I do it! It requires an output transformer from another simul (Mark III or earlier, before Mark III's went to pentode, I think?) Anyways, the correct transformer is on hand, and it is on Mike B's bench. Should I do it? I love my DRX for the sweet, liquidy lead...

    Mark V as IIc+ substitute?

    Should clarify: I’m considering a 25 or 35

    Mark V as IIc+ substitute?

I know this topic has been discussed, but consider my situation: I have my “grail” amp (iic+ DRX), and even a “backup” (HR), but might want something to keep at my office/studio that isn't so irreplaceable. The sound I go for is a mix between Petrucci’s lead tone and sort of...

IIC+ Simul-class "brightness reduction mod" - worth it?

Have you ever played a non-simul iic+? They have insane amounts of brightness on tap via the presence knob. The brightness reduction mod brings that to the level of a non-simul. I don't know what the GEQ has to do with any of this. I've played and owned GEQ Marks, and I will probably never buy...

Attenuator recommendations for a Mark II

I do find the Rivera has a less compressed sound (when recording) than the Two Notes. Also, it has this "warm" switch, which seems to emulate some of the IIc+'s warmth that I do feel is lost a bit in the attenuation. I find it to work quite well as an attenuator, but I really haven't tried many...

Attenuator recommendations for a Mark II

I had a Two Notes torpedo captor (I thought the -20db output did not sound good), and now I have a Rivera Rockcrusher. I pretty much only use it for direct recording. With my Mark II's, even at apartment volume, I find they sound best with no attenuator at all. I'm beyond thrilled with the...
