1989 Studio Preamp - disconnected lead from pcb

After a closer look, I gave you some bad info! The wire goes to the node of top lug of the master pot in the schematic rather than the wiper. You should be looking for the node that connects to the 22.1k / R212(?) junction downstream of the 100n off the V2A plate. I’m unsure of the designator or...

Mark IIC to C+ Steps Required for Upgrade

It may just be how the SR3 behaves, or maybe a bad LDR. It should switch to around 100k after 10 ms, but may take a while to get to 1.5M where the pot is effectively removed from the circuit. You could try an SR2, I don’t have that behavior in a clone I just built. Does it also take a while to...

1989 Studio Preamp - disconnected lead from pcb

Do you have a meter with a continuity checker? Not the easiest to read, but the highlighted node is where the wire should connect. Maybe look at the V2B area (side of V2 closer to the input jack), find the 3.3M(?) that ties to pin 7, and solder it to a pad on the opposite side of the resistor...

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Back to a ground trace on the power supply board, it's landed next to the wire that bonds the ground traces to a PT mounting bolt. I've never seen how Boogie does this, they may go straight to the PT bolt. My PT has a 50 VAC non center tapped winding, so one side goes to ground lug and the other...

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Turns out the “issue” I found with the effects loop seems to be normal, I checked my Mark III and it does the same thing. There is a small amount of hum / buzz, which I’m hypersensitive to, but when I fire up my Mark III the fan drowns it out, so I don’t think it’s any different from a normal...

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

I’d probably sell ones made by a board house, not the hand made jobbies. When I convert the IIB it will be a board from a MFG, this project was a proof of concept. I didn’t think there would be much interest in these, but I could get as few as three made at a time. I did find an issue with the...

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Hahah thanks! The thing rips, it's crazy loud. Can't wait to get this IIB converted

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

She’s alive and she’s a gnarly beast!! Not finished but good enough to rock for a couple days now. Not sure if my pot tapers are the same as Boogie’s, thinking I might setup the Mark IV how I like and measure to compare when I get some time. A few more things to test, but feeling pretty...

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Wiring underway. I decided to order some new shielded wire for this build so I’m going to try to complete as much as I can before it gets here

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Board is about ready to go in Decided to go with the NSL-32SR2s as they tested great. The VTL5C4s off the net were legit, but I decided to save them for the IIB if this project works out.

Does anyone know a source for replacement faders? Or a fix for broken tabs?

CTS stopping making them, I was never able to find a source other than boogie and they wouldn’t sell me any last time I tried. The pots are 50k with a special linear taper You could weld the tab back on I suppose. I’m not sure you need to do anything if we’re talking one tab on one fader, it’s...

Sold / Withdrawn KSR modded Rackto

What is that neat contraption that turns the rackmount head into a normal head?

    Need advice - Re-capping a 295 Simul-Class

Thank you for the kind words! I found a new production optocoupler that tests pretty good in the circuit. I've also got some different NOS VTL5C4s on order, so hopefully will be able to use those when I convert the IIB for the sake of authenticity. LDRs are a non-ideal switch, but their...

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Alrighty, in case anyone else runs into this issue with sourcing VTL5C4s, I tested Advanced Photonix NSL-32SR2 in the stock circuit and the lead master LDR on resistance was around 500 ohms, and the EQ LDR on resistance was around 50 ohms. @Henz was kind enough to do some testing in his DRG, his...

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

They've long since stopped making the vactrols that Boogie used. The VTL5C4 replacements I have don't act the same in the circuit

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Tested the switching last night, unfortunately got 13k on resistance for the lead master VTL5C4. Back to the drawing board, don’t know if I’ll try to source some originals or modify the circuit yet

    Help to ID Older Boogie

It’s an HR export, either a IIA or IIB. Not a IIC

    Mark IIB to IIC+ Conversion

Board is mostly populated now, I’ll start adding wires and a few components and get the install going. I’d ordered some VTL5C4s off the net, I thought they were NOS but after closer inspection they look like imposters. Hopefully they run OK, the forward voltage was a bit higher than the...
