If he replaced the tubes, why not just keep the old ones as spares? If the new tubes go out, you can use the old set of Sylvanias until you replace with a matched set.

I'd love to hear and/or see his settings for the SLO tone. Those amps have some amazing clarity for high gain. I was thinking a Mark V could probably get there - or very close.
