Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

I haven't tried the YJM's yet. I do really like the Areas so far though! I just got my old Custom 24 back. It definitely sounds better with the Roadster. I got a full set of new tubes for the V, we'll see after that........

Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

 I just got my old 1992 Custom 24 back from a friend. I sold it to him for $2,000 years ago when we bought our house (needed to raise the down payment....). He just sold it back to me for $1,400 because he needs to raise enough money for a down payment..... This guitar sounds really...

Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

I haven't played a guitar with singles in a long time. Lately I've been really getting into Strat music though and thought I would give the Areas a try. Really nice pickups so far! I think my V combo really likes singles much more than humbuckers. Again, I'm not looking for Metallica or...

Mark V combo - Humbuckers vs. Single Coils

So..... I've been in the process of rewiring one of my Strats for a week or two. Other, more important stuff just keeps coming up. The Strat has DiMarzios (approximations of single coils, but no noise at all) - Area 61 in the neck - Area 58 in the middle - Virtual Solo in the bridge I...

Anyone use Channel 3 for low to medium gain?

I stand corrected. It was V4 that I tried the 12AT7 in. I didn't try vV6 because I didn't want to mess with channels 1 & 2. I need to order some less noisy AT7's and give it another shot.

Anyone use Channel 3 for low to medium gain?

I'll try Extreme mode! So far, I've only tried this on the Mk IV setting. Channel 3 does have enough gain and sustain for me with high gain settings, but it's way too brittle and bright sounding for me. Channel 2 sounds way better to my ears for high gain. Much fuller and richer. I tried the...

Anyone use Channel 3 for low to medium gain?

I just can't get a high gain sound that I like from Channel 3 on my Mark V. I've tried numerous settings and the 12AT7 trick in V3. I love channels 1 & 2 though! Is anyone else using channel 3 for low to mid gain sounds? Here are the settings that I came up with this morning. I like this...

Mark V/DC-5 Chassis/Shell Swap, will it work?

I did this years ago with my first Mark V, but I went the opposite direction. Not sure why I like combos, but they seem to work the best for me. The chassis will definitely fit, but there are a couple of issues that you will run into. 1. The V's chassis is a little bit deeper and the knobs...

Mark series transformers from TAD or similar sites

I know Mercury Magnetics is a bit expensive, but.........I have never seen an amp that failed to sound better after a Mercury upgrade. The guys at Mercury are typically willing to work with the customer and dial in exactly the sound they are looking for. For instance, I call them and...

WTB: Mesa Casters with Base Plates

I don't have either of those covers, but I'm definitely interested in the casters. How much do you want for them? I bought a set from Mesa, but it never hurts to have spare parts.

TC50 combo vs Rectoverb 25 combo

I didn't try an EQ. I hadn't been playing for quite some time and a friend really wanted the Rectoverb. He doesn't have much money, but he's a great guy that helps a lot of people, so I sold it to him for fairly cheap. I wound up replacing it with a Roadster and a Mark V. I do miss the size...

    NAD: Couldn't resist!

Right on, thanks! I'll give V4 a try for sure. V6 might not last long as an AT7. I'm usually looking for more aggressive tones, but I will definitely try that as well.

    NAD: Couldn't resist!

So far, I'm really impressed with how good it sounds at low to medium volumes! I love my old DC-3 but it is freakishly loud and I just can't use it for small gigs unless I have something in the Loop that can limit the volume. The V doesn't seem to have this problem at all. Can't wait to open...

    NAD: Couldn't resist!

Thanks to Mark (my Enabler) at Sweetwater, I got a used/new to me Mark V combo today in the mail! So far I like it a lot! Gotta figure out how to remove some of the tubbiness from Channel 2 and add it into Channel 3 though. It's a little bit bitter sweet though because I bought a Roadster...

TC50 combo vs Rectoverb 25 combo

Thanks! I really enjoyed the song. Most of the TC demo videos make the amp sound small and compressed. I do like the one from Mesa with the different styles of players. I really loved the Rectoverb 25, just wish it sounded a little larger or had more bass. I've never had very good luck with...

TC50 combo vs Rectoverb 25 combo

Thanks! If they used a Mark I on the Brothers album, I would be really surprised. Of course, with studio equipment and FX, who knows......... I had a Mark I for a little while. It's a great amp, but I want more versatility. How would you say the TC sounds in comparison to the RA? I can get a...

TC50 combo vs Rectoverb 25 combo

Thanks! The Rectoverb was great. Much better than the original Rectoverb Series 1 & 2. The clean was wonderful. I had to mod it slightly so that it was loud enough to use in a band situation and still sound clean. The lead channel was almost everything I wanted, but lacked bass. I think this...

I have a very early 2:90 power amp for sale. This amp has a lot of scratches, but it's a work horse! I have discovered that I am more of a 2:50 kind of guy. I do not know the age of the tubes, but they all tested strong. Power Tubes will be removed and individually bubble wrapped for safe...

TC50 combo vs Rectoverb 25 combo

So........... Before I get started, if someone says, "Check it out before you buy it," I'm gonna scream! I live on an island in the Pacific with no Mesa dealer around. I would have to take a flight, then a cab, just to check it out and I'd be out $300.........The other side of that argument is...
